CA NCLEX without SSN, can we really ask for an extension to the BON?

Hello everyone! Does anybody here whose in the same predicament with me. My CA NCLEX is about to expire on April 2008 and until then, I doubt I can give my SSN since retrogression has damper on things...

I've read someone before who had asked the CA BON for an extension and she was given twice. Has anyone experienced this?

I've talked to my lawyer about this problem and she told me that they will call the CA BON to ask for an extension...

IS it really possible? any inputs on this? thank you so much!

Nope it hasn't expired. i just recently passed my nclex but since it is retrogression, i don't think it will be lifted in 4 years [including the 1 year extension] or even 6 years [if you apply to another state]. so i was just wondering if that can be done.

where are you right now? i got mine using an itin... you really think retrogression will push thru for 4 years?

You committed fraud when you put your itn number and not your social security number. It asks for SSN and when they find out you can loose you license.

i don't think so. because i included the paper i got from irs the paper assigning me my itin. and ca brn is very much aware that what i submitted is my itin and not my ssn. they just said that i won't be able to renew my license without the ssn this time.

"Disclosure of your social security number is mandatory. Section 30 of the Business and Professions

Code and Public Law 94-455 (42 USCA 405 ©(2)©) authorize collection of your social security number.

Your social security number will be used exclusively for tax enforcement purposes, for purposes of

compliance with any judgment or order for family support in accordance with Section 11350.6 of the

Welfare and Institutions Code, or for verification of licensure or examination status by a licensing or

examination entity which utilizes a national examination where licensure is reciprocal with the requesting

state. If you fail to list your social security number, your application for initial or renewal license

will not be processed. You will also be reported to the Franchise Tax Board, which may assess a $100

penalty against you. Questions regarding the Franchise Tax Board should be directed to (800) 852-5711

So, I guess California has a set of rules for most of us and others can give an ITN to the board.

I was at a meeting today at work. New insurance cards were issued with our SSN and we were given a number to remove it. My point is many people do not want to give our SSN, but have to get a license. Why would Americans be discriminated against and internationals not obey the law. Sorry it does not make sense to me.

i don't think so. because i included the paper i got from irs the paper assigning me my itin. and ca brn is very much aware that what i submitted is my itin and not my ssn. they just said that i won't be able to renew my license without the ssn this time.

you are okay until this license runs out, but many that went the route of using the itin# just put it in the blank for the ssn# and did not do what you did and inform that this is what it was.

but more importantly for you, what are you going to do when the two years runs out? this puts you in the same predicament. you are not going to be able to renew, hence everything will expire. and you cannot renew without the actual ssn#. so it really comes down to the fact that this did not help you at all. actually cost you an extra year that you would have had to make the three years. and they are never going to issue an extension to you.

there are actually many new grads in the us that are having issues with trying to find work now as well, and the fact that there are so many that are already in the process for immigration. we are actually seeing things look more like five years at the minimum and up to seven years or so for those from some countries.

I doubt pearsonvue will keep records of all exam results, if your file is destroyed then your NCLEX results are destroyed and you have to sit the exam again

Pearson-Vue does not keep results, they are sent out to the BON that one sits the exam for and that is the only place that they are kept. That is why once the file is destroyed and the results have not been sent on to another state, then poof, they are gone and the NCLEX exam will need to be rewritten.

okay thank you very much. that has been bugging me lately. well, actually, a lot of things are still bugging me. i still have a lot to learn from here. please bear with me if i ask too many questions. thank you!

well, by giving my itin, i believe that it helped in such a way that my file with california brn will not be "destroyed" (as stated in the letter when they said that i passed but cannot give my permanent license since i don't have a ssn).

by giving my itin, they issued my permanent license. but they said that i won't be able to renew it if i don't have a ssn. by issuing my permanent license, i believe that my file will not be destroyed anymore but instead will remain inactive if i will not be able to provide them with my ssn.

now, my license is nearing it's expiration and i have read from some members' posts here that they were indeed able to renew it by asking the brn to give them some more time because we're still unable to obtain ssn due to current retrogression. and they got approved. i'm hoping the same thing happens in my case.

wish me luck!
