C in Comp 1 in 2005...but have a Bachelors

Published

Alright.. so I started college way back in 2005. When I was there, I had no idea what I wanted to do. I went from a community college to a university. During my first semester at the CC, I made straight Cs. When I went to get my BS in Political Science, I stepped it up and have not received a C in almost 7 years.

After my husband joined the Army, I decided having a more portable career would be best. I chose to pursue nursing. I really enjoy the pre-reqs that I have completed, so I am excited to apply. However, the C of Comp 1 and C in General Psychology are haunting me. I am afraid that they will hinder my ability to be accepted into the nursing program at my community college.

I am just looking for opinions on whether it might affect me or not. I keep going back and forth to repeat or not. I have a Bachelors of Science in a liberal arts field...I've done my fair share of writing essays. I am wondering if they will look at that and maybe take that into account.

Thank you in advance!

My GPA for course work in the RN program is a 3.22 (their cutoff is a 2.5) and I made a 93% total on the HESI.

I would repeat the courses to replace the grades. C's in most programs I've looked into wont even accept them. Most are C+ or higher. I did that myself. I had a C in sociology 12 years ago, repeated it and received an A, also did the same thing for a&p 1. Took it Yeats ago received a C+ repeated it and received an A. You want your pre req grades to be as competitive as possible. Good luck

****and I am starting my nursing program Monday,so needless to say it didn't hurt me to do that.

Congrats.

If you were applying to a program that was highly competitive I would say take the classes again. But for a CC program, keep the C's.

If the programs you're looking at are really GPA competitive, I might look into CLEPping those classes, if your school accepts that. If you think repeating the courses would be beneficial and you have time, I would repeat them.

As far as the program taking your Bachelor's and the number of essays you've written into account -- every school is different. The school I attend only looks at GPA and entrance exam score. Your advisor or the nursing program director would probably be able to tell you how your school would handle it.

But for a CC program, keep the C's.

Don't underestimate the competitiveness of those CC programs! The two schools I looked at are extremely competitive for their programs. Both require a minimum 3.0 for application, but a student would not be accepted at either with a 3.0. The average GPA for students being accepted has been 3.7-3.8

I still say CLEP or retaking is your best bet.
