"If you are a foreign grad nurse who completed their requirements, currently in the USA and has a sponsor go ahead dont let it deter you. You can file your I-140 and I-485 concurrently bypassing the labor cert and will receive your EAD (employment authorization document) first so you can start working already while waiting for the green card. You have a good chance of getting the EAD, but the green card now that is a different question. They have to process first those that have an earlier priority date before you".
Can i get EAD easily? is it enougt to start working in us?
Thank you in advance
Dear suzanne4
I am not speaking with your about Agencies
I am speaking about big Hospitals,A contract for a direct hire
Tulsa hospital (Hillcrest Medical Center)
Or
Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit MI
What motivate big hospitals (not Agencies) to invest and to look for nurses
two big hospitals are more than ready to be my petitioners. why???
There is a retrogression in place, period. And it does not matter if a facility is willing to start the process now, the issue becomes if they will have a spot for you when the visa is available and we see this happen all of the time. Administration gets changed and they decide that it no longer makes sense for them to bring a foreign nurse over.
HFH is located in Detroit city proper, and the city is having quite a few problems if you are not aware of this. As well as the state of MI. Since there have been so many lay-offs in the car industry, the state is actually paying tuition for two years for many to get retrained and the jobs will go to them first. And they have been using quite a few Canadians that come over on the TN Visa, and they are wishing to cut back on that as well. Why pay someone else when you can give the job to someone local in the area?
By the time that you have a chance at a visa, there may be a significant decrease in the number of nurses that HFH needs. And I happen to be very familiar with that facility as I used to work there.
Right now, they are looking more at Canadians to be able to begin work right now and not in a few years. And this is Canadians that hold a passport from there, not a landed immigrant.
It does not cost them much to start the process, so that is not really a big concern of theirs, the issue for you is if the job will be there when you are possibly ready and that is not always the case. We have seen several here that got their contracts cancelled right before the interview with the US Embassy and they had to start the entire process all over again once they found a new employer.
Suggest that you spend the time and research why these facitilites are willing to do direct hires at this time, there is alot more to the story than what you are thinking about.
I believe i read about what Suzanne4 is talking about. I think the car company was Ford or so, and i read most of those who got the ax were going into nursing.
Will this change the number of nurses they need in michigan? maybe. And i say 'maybe' because the are so many nursing schools here in philadelphia pouring out lots of grads and yet, HUP hires some foreign nurses (i had 2 on my floor from the phillipines). They wouldn't hire someone who finished CCP because they want BSN only.
Why they hire foreign nurses, i don't know but i know they petitioned for some girl who graduated last year. I have a feeling they take the best grads that come out, irrespective of their status, cuz i have friends who finished and applied and weren't even called for an interview.
It's kinda weird they do that, but that's not to say this situation wouldn't change in the near future so don't bank on that too much.
I Do Sympathise With The Previous Writer. You Start Taking Exams - Cgfns; Nclex Etc - All Of Which Cost Money, And Take Time To Process, And When It Comes Down To It, It Seems Rather Like We Are Not Wanted. All That Propels You Forward Is Faith And Hope That Eventually You Might Get In. The Temptaion Is To Want To Speed Things Along Because Once You Start Thinking About Living Somewhere Else It Instantly Denigrates The Life You Have Presently. I Guess Its A Case Of Living For Today And Letting The Rest Happen In Its Own Time - Easier Said Than Done.

Please do not use a capital letter for each word, it makes it hard to read and then no one wants to respond to what ever you are asking. If it is a pain to read, then it gets left and forgotten.

They are not sponsors, they are petitioners. Please use the correct title.
There are not that many that are actually starting the procedures, they have been dragging out things for a greater length of time when they start the paperwork. Nothing it getting done as quickly as it can because once it gets approval on the I-140, then it just sits there.
Be aware that when a hospital is going thru an agency to find someone for them, they are not paying anything until the nurse begins work. So nothing is lost by them. And be aware that we have seen significant cancellation clauses in contracts thru some of the agencies that we hear about here.
One in particular charges $8000 US if you cancel a contract that you signed with them a week earlier. Even before they have started any paper work on you, and they will go after you to get it paid. As well as $45,000 cancellation contracts if you do not complete an assignment.
So yes, you may see some that are in a hurry to employ you, but just because they want to get money from you when you decide not to remain with them.
We have seen just about everything come thru here, and some of it would surprise you. When I started at Allnurses.com, there were about 66,000 members then and the International Forum was just getting started. Look at it now, we have around 275,000 members and an extremely active International Forum as well as four sub-forums. And I was the only moderator here on this section, but since we have grown I have two others that have joined me and they are still waiting for a visa, and they have had their petitions submitted for some time. We are all very aware of what goes on in the world of immigration as well as the tricks that an agency will play to get you to sign with them..Just be very careful, things may not be as they seem or you think that they are.
Agencies only get paid when they get the nurse working, not before then. There is no retainer fee for them where they get paid in advance. So look at from a true business standpoint and you will see that they need to get money from someplace. And unfortunately, you will see many times it was from the nurse who had no idea of what they signed or that is is a legally binding contract.
