Anyone knows any BSN-only hospitals, preferably in CA? Thx a lot!!! :nurse:

University of California, Irvine (UCI)

University of Califonia, Los Angeles (UCLA)

UC Davis

UC San Diego

USC

Mission Hospital, Orange County

Saint Jude, Orange County

Just to name a few.

Definitely not true. My aunt works at one of those hospitals and is in charge of hiring for multiple areas of the hospital and they hire a mixture of ADN and BSN and they actually wish Magnet didn't prefer BSN because the hospital has had better luck with new grad ADN nurses.

Specializes in Med/Surg, Ortho, ASC.

Hi there,

I am really curious as to which particular hospital you are referring to. The reason why I mentioned those facilities is because I had been a traveler nurse in all of them and was speaking from personal experience. Who knows, maybe things changed in some of them ??(I highly doubt it). I am currently employed by one of the largest UC system hospitals and over the years, the trend has been to erradiate all ADN nurse from management positions to the point where many of them (near to retirement), would rather work as staff nurses, rather than folk the time and money to go back to school.

"been to erradiate all ADN nurse from management positions"

Wow, I've heard lots of plots over the year to get rid of ADN's but I've never heard a threat to subject us all to radiation:uhoh3:

Nah, Cedars picks up nearly half of all the new grads from my school (an ADN program)

That is great news to hear. Where did you go to school?

LAVC. its funny because i couldn't even get an interview at UCLA even tho i was top of my class and cnsa pres but they were hiring up all of santa monica's new grads. i think certain hosptals may have agreements or parnerships with certain schools or maybe they just like to hire locals. dunno but it certainly helped me get a job after school.

All I will say is that it is a large Magnet hospital (and one that has been for quite some time) in Southern California. She almost mentioned that one of the best nurses she has ever worked with and the best manager she has ever worked with is a RN with absolutely no degree at all - went to a diploma many many years ago. Experience trumps a degree, IMO. I'd much rather have a well seasoned nurse with no degree managing a floor than a new grad BSN or MSN nurse. I want someone that has been in my shoes. Far too often management is removed from the reality of being a bedside nurse and it poorly affects the policies that are made and makes staff none too happy!
