You sure you want to keep working at the bedside? I think with 8 yrs of home health experience and having RN under your belt, that can definitely get a consideration for a leadership position at home health or SNF, or even educator or quality improvement type jobs. If you are keen on going to hospital though and want direct patient care, all the power to you.

8 years experience is SNF and Home health. I worked as a case manager for 2 years. I want to have Hospital experience in my resume at least for a year. I believe and know this will be a plus in my resume.

Parkland is notoriously slow in responding to applicants, averaging around 3 months from the date of application to the time an individual starts orientation.

If you are applying for new grad internships you may not qualify, since you have 8 years experience. Your title says no experience, but that isn't how the hospitals see you. It is an unfortunate gap, particularly in DFW, that they usually will only hire new grads into internships and won't hire outside of internships to train someone. Your 8 years will make this an uphill climb. You may need to look in areas like Sherman, Rockwall and other areas on the fringe of the big city to break into acute care. Definitely keep applying, but recognize you are not an ideal candidate for an internship/residency program. Those favor new grads. You do have experience as a nurse, even though it is not in acute care. Your best bet would be to connect through professional referral.

I am on the same boat. I work at a nursing home 2.5 years. I graduated with my BSN in May this year. I applied to a residency program in a local community hospital in may. I got an interview in September, but they didn't hire me. It's frustrating. I was too confident, I thought I would be over qualified. I applied only this one place because it's the only hospital in my town. Even though the HR told me I can apply the residency program on November again. I don't think I would like to work for them any more. Now I don't know what else I should do?

So let me get this straight... you interviewed and they didn't give you the job so now you have a vendetta against that hospital because you got rejected? you are not entitled to a job at any hospital so please stop feeling like you are. If you keep this attitude you will never get hired!

Hospitals choose the candidates who they feel are the best fit, and they may have also had a lot of internal candidates. Part of the job search is that you may work hard to get to the interview, but then still get rejected. It's life!

It's nothing to do with my attitude against the hospital because of the rejection. The reality is that a good network is so much more important than a person's qualifications, at least in this small town. Two of the chosen candidates I known personally, one's aunt and another one's mum's friend are nursing managers there.

Yes, I got an interview eventually. HR set me the interview appointment. 3 nursing managers from different floor interviewed me. 3 weeks later, HR told me I wasn't chosen, but I could apply their program in November. Maybe you are right, I shouldn't lose faith to get my dream job. But I am afraid it's just wasting time if they are only hire the internal candidates and the ones who has network with them. Any advice?

Gotcha. Just keep checking the status of your application online in your account and watch your email for first responses to come through. Parkland is absolutely notorious for sllllooowwwwwww hiring process.

You will miss 100% of the shots you don't take. Apply. Interview if you get invited to. That is my advice.

I'm nearby. I know that our hospital is on a hiring freeze system wide right now. Maybe other systems are the same now? I wish you success in finding a job! It's hard out there right now.
