BSHP Spring 2021 (Baptist School of Health Professions) ADN

Published

Has anyone here applied to Baptist School of Health Professional in SA, TX for Spring 2021 . I just took my TEAS test today. I haven’t seen a thread for this coming semester so I wanted to start one.

Thank you so much, you’re very helpful, I don’t know how I’d start having so little knowledge about the program especially coming from California. Good luck for this semester!

Eww another Californian migrating to texas. LOL jk jk jk But seriously prepare yourself for this kind of attitude. The school costs $30k but due to scholarships for residents and fin aid it really cost me around $17k. Since you're not from Bexar county you wouldn't qualify for certain scholarships; project quest, baptist health and city grants. I think you'll like it here. My commute to class is 5-15 minutes. Prepare to be in San Antonio. First years are required to attend clinicals. The covid situation is very fluid. Also for foundations you can't miss more than 1 clinical and even then the makeup is brutal. I'm currently finishing ob and will move to peds this week. Pm me once you have a baptist email and I'll "lace" you up.

Good luck to you! I managed a B and a level 2. It wasn't too difficult for me. Others struggled heavily with the ATI and exam #3. I'm a pretty good student but it was difficult managing ob and adaptations. I would definitely recommend reading before listening to lecture. At clinical "checkoff" they did mention that MGMT will be in hospital.

Yes, I’ve hate that management is going to be in the hospital- thank god! Exam 2 was rough and so was ATI, I also maintained a B and a Level 2. ATI was very random and most of the questions were over content we did not cover at all in theory. Theory was not that bad.  Clinical was ? it depends on your instructor but some are veryyyyyyyy particular and will grade extremely tough. My group ended up doing 3 times the amount of work as any other group. I feel you about struggling with adaptations, it added so much busy work to our plate. So glad it’s over though LOL

LOL I swear I don’t know what to expect in Texas when I move. My parents literally told me to expect Texans to hate my California “attitude” whatever that meant, But thank you for the heads up! It’s definitely something to get used to.

Also since you mentioned it’s 30k, does it go down if you have your general education courses done? I did two years at a college and finished all my classes required to get a degree. I was hoping at least it would go down to 20-23k. Also FAFSA hopefully would help. But still I’m moving because the programs here in California are full, like even the LVN programs here cost about 40-50k, it’s brutal. (LOL sorry I know you’ve heard it a million times but it really is expensive here.)

LOL I've heard about this professor! Hopefully I draw a good one. Hopefully your learned more from that professor. I understand serious and tough professors IF all the bs results in me being the best nurse. Im honestly interested in PICU and pedi er.

I believe gen ED is like 1250 per class plus a few for the float semester. The chart previously posted is accurate. If you complete all gen eds you're saving about $6-7k so 23 IF they accept the credits. Depending on the state and time frame. Some people had problems with med ethics and had to retake it. You might have to harass your advisor to make sure they accept them but it's well worth it.

Also you may want to keep the California thing to yourself come job hunting time if you want to be hired locally. I've heard tale of many a Californian accepting a nurse residency here then leaving back to California after a year, before the organization has recouped it's expenditure. Some employers have gotten wise to that.

Thank you for that, these are helpful. I am settling here in San Antonio for good, my whole family actually is moving here believe it or not. Is it that uncommon to have out of state students at BSHP. I’ve only lived in California for a few years, originally came from the Philippines.

Mabuhay you good fam! LOL ? Pinay you're good! No it's just something I've been noticing as I talk to different people about employment. Actually as of late TONS of Californians have moved here so some folks have gotten prickly about it.

I literally gasped LOL its good to know there’s fellow Filipinos around San Antonio. I know for sure a lot of Californians move to Texas for the low cost of living, I felt I needed a change of location, and it was almost time to move out of my parents nest. I’m actually looking forward to living there!
