Hello,

I am starting the RN program on Monday, 08/20/07. I am wondering if there are any other students here who are attending or have attended. I am interested in some guidance and a study group. I live in Sunrise and go to the Central Campus in Davie.

Please PM me for my email.

thanks.

what is the min gpa in bcc to get into the program?

Unfortunately, I don't remember. I put my application in over 3 years ago. I'm pretty sure it was 2.5 then, and I know they were going to raise it when I was leaving. It's got to be a 2.75 or maybe a 3.0. But I don't know for sure. Sorry I can't be more help. Good luck.

I'm going there now, and I was told it was 2.5....

I think it really depends on your science grades. Ithink it may be a 2.5, too, though.

NO, I applied in dec. 2003 and got in august 2005 and it was a 2.0

then for the jan 2006 class it became a 2.5

Thanks so much for your insight, hbug. I believe that my instructors are supportive of all of us who show that we are responsible and accountable for our actions. They also focus on the students that need help studying and encourage the others to do what works best for them. I am really wondering what happened with the former students with the horror stories. I hope you did EXTREMELY well on your NCLEX and would love any additional info you may feel is helpful in the future.

BCC DOES NOT ENCOURAGE STUDENTS, from DAY 1, they tell you "well, if you make it, if you pass, if this if that..." they were never encouraging to any of us. They don't care about the students at all

I completed all of my pre-reqs at Miami Dade. I was on their waiting list for a year before I found out that my program GPA (3.8) was not what they were looking at. They were going by my cumulative GPA (3.14) which was low and would have me on the list for years. I waited for a year before I learned of this REDICULOUS policy and tried Broward. As soon as BCC saw my grades for my science classes they automatically let me into the program. I had to complete the core class (HCP 0130--I think) and 5 certifications before I started the program. I have no clue if there is a list otherwise.

Miami Dade does NOT have a waiting list, if they had one, I would of graduated from there..... I went to BCC which had a waiting list, I was there for 1 year 8 months before starting the program.

Hi sandycadet,

I graduated from BCC central campus on Aug. 2. Believe me, there were hard times, but it is a great school and program. I agree about the horror stories, they are just stories. Some teachers are harder than others, but in my experience, they all really want you to do well and to be a GREAT nurse. I just took my NCLEX this morning, and I know BCC has a high pass rate. I'll let you know Thursday if I added to their good track record. Best of luck to you, keep studying, you'll make it!!

I graduated with you on august 2nd, candlelighting was at north campus.

I went to south campus.

I heard horrible stories about central, there were at least 6 students that transfered from central to south.

I passed the NCLEX.

I don't think that BCC prepares you at all for the test, but they do make you work really hard.

I start at North Campus on Jan. 7. Has any one else attended this campus? Is there anyone else starting at North in Jan?

You will go to the best campus!!!!!!!!!! that is the best out of the 3 campuses. They said that it is very nice. If I lived in broward, I would have gone there... but south is the closest to mia

Well,

I am now on my way to GI/GU in January. I really love my clinical instructor. She was VERY ENCOURAGING and told us how much she believed that we could excel if we put our mind to knowing the material and not just trying to memorize things to get past. I have heard that Central Campus is the hardest and so far, I can say that it has not been an easy ride. The list at Miami Dade is like a bunch of applicants on the list according to cumulative GPA. They pick the highest ones (with 3.4 being the cutoff). Each time a group of applicants come in they pick the highest cumulative GPAs and the rest stay there until there is room. I have spoken to the Dean of Nursing for Miami Dade and she was very serious about the policy regardless of how it held students with a high PROGRAM GPA back. That is why I waited a year before trying BCC. I am very grateful for the opportunity or else I would not have been going to school so close to home and I would not have met my VERY ENCOURAGING clinical instructor. Good luck to you all and wish me enormous amounts of study time for the future.:lol2:
