Broward Community College Students

Published

Hello,

I am starting the RN program on Monday, 08/20/07. I am wondering if there are any other students here who are attending or have attended. I am interested in some guidance and a study group. I live in Sunrise and go to the Central Campus in Davie.

Please PM me for my email.

thanks.

I attend north campus. I don't know anything about south campus.

do you know if people in the program work? and if they do what kind of job? how is the schedule? Like all day MW or half day TR or 4 hours MTWR? lol

I worked per diem as a nursing assistant during the program. after I had the baby I stopped because it was too much, a new born plus a job plus school--

then I started to work per diem again as a nursing assistant while studying for boards.

It is doable to work and go to school, in my class we had a social worker, flight attendant, real state agent, and several LPN's, and a handfull nursing assistants.

but you do have to spend a lot of time studying though, I managed to study whatever free time I got, so when the baby slept, I studied

ooh ok, thanks for the information. what campus do you attend? do you know anything about the south campus? i heard the north is the best from the 3.

Even going to south campus, I always heard the same thing that north was the best campus.

South was so-so, you had bad teachers, and worse teachers....... clinicals it's either you had a very mean teacher or you had a teacher that did not care what you did.

the "cool" teachers for clinicals all the spots were taken that first day that you signed up for the classes...... and if you didn't sign up quick enough then you were stuck with a mean teacher..

this august will be my 2 year aniversary that I am out of that school!! yay!

Oh wow, Congrats!!!

I have two other questions... do i need to do the medical history and physical examination when apply or do i do it after applying. How about the drug and background check?

You don't need to do it in order "to" apply. From what I've been told, you don't do any of that until after you get your acceptance into the program. I'm going to be getting my Hep B shots soon myself because its a 3 step process and will take several months to complete.

so should i start doing it ? since im applying for August??

or wait till i get accepted? if i do... hopefully! lol

You can do a titer for all of the required immunizations. Then, use the titer results to determine which vaccinations you need. I would definately wait to do the background check and the drug screening, but I don't think it matters with the vaccinations because you should have these already especially if you attended school in the states.

I called one place to find out how much the varicella titer was, and it was more expensive than the vaccine. I don't have insurance, so I'm just going to get the vaccines. I only need TB, Hep B, and Varicella. I've had chicken pox before, but since the titer is more than the vaccine, I'm not even going to bother to see if I'm immune.

By the way, speaking of vaccines.....the TB needs to be done annually, correct? If so, I'm not going to do it now when I start my Hep B vaccines. I'll wait until I get my acceptance into the program to get that done.

If you don't have the Hep B in time to start in August (since its 3 shots at 3 separate times) you can sign a form stating you refuse to get it. Then when you're done, you can just give them the proof. I talked to one place that said they did they did the shots like this:

Now: shot 1

1 month later: shot 2

6 months later: shot 3

Not sure if every Dr/clinic is like this, but its going to take several months.

I heard you can refuse the shots... do you think that will count against being accepted?
