Broward Community College Students

Published

Hello,

I am starting the RN program on Monday, 08/20/07. I am wondering if there are any other students here who are attending or have attended. I am interested in some guidance and a study group. I live in Sunrise and go to the Central Campus in Davie.

Please PM me for my email.

thanks.

I have no clue if you can refuse all of them. I just know you can with Hep B.

umm you should already have the other ones... lol and yes i did mean Hep B... but the other one should already been in your records...

You can refuse the Hep B. Most people fill out the form refusing the Hep B. Then, they complete the series. The form is only for the school to "CYA", showing that the students made an informed decision to begin clinicals without completing the vaccine. Call around to price the vaccines/titers. The price varies. I tried to get the Hep B for free. My ins won't pay for adult hep b vaccines. The cheapest I found was $42/shot at the health dept. And I believe you can skip all the vaccines, if you claim that you can't take them because of a conflict with religious beliefs. I'm not sure I would recommend it though.

Well not necessarily. I've had my TB vaccine, but that was many years ago, and I think its supposed to be done annually (thats what the BC physical form says, but I need to verify that) so I need to update mine. Tetorifice is done every 10 years, so some people may not have updated their's once they got out of school. I never updated mine until I got hurt first. Then I would run out and get the vaccine, which happened a couple of years ago again, so I have that one. The Varicella vaccine was one that was not required when I was a child. I actually got the chicken pox when I was about 8 or 9. They didn't start giving that vaccine until 1995. Kids who were in school had to get it, but that's when I graduated, so I was never required to get it.

Leavingteaching-

Did you end up getting the Hep B at the health dept. I've been debating going there, or going someplace a little closer to home that costs a little more but I can be in and out pretty quickly. The main thing is I don't want to have to wait around for hours to get a shot.

Unfortunately, I went to the health department. I paid $42/shot. To add insult to injury, this was my second series because I'm in a lucky group whose Hep B series didn't stimulate my body to produce the antibodies. The second time was the charm!

Oh man! So you had to do two whole series?? How did you find out that you didn't create the antibodies? I would have never even given it a second thought.

I did the titers. I'd completed all of the vaccines and didn't want to get any unnecessary injections. I had 0 immunity. It was as if I'd never gotten the vaccine.

Has anyone received their acceptance email from BC yet? They were suppose to send them out on the 1 3th but my sis hasn't gotten hers yet?

I've heard that people have received responses and some have been accepted and and some denied. Not sure why she hasn't heard back yet. Did she check her program admit status online yet?

I thought she just got admitted??? I know you have one sis already in the program, and thought the other just got admitted for May. Hope she gets in!

Thanks Sunnyraygurl! She did get admitted and got the 'Accepted' check in her limited access application status. She is referring to a follow up to a remark in the email that said that they would send out more information by the 13th.
