Broward Community College Students

Hello,

I am starting the RN program on Monday, 08/20/07. I am wondering if there are any other students here who are attending or have attended. I am interested in some guidance and a study group. I live in Sunrise and go to the Central Campus in Davie.

Please PM me for my email.

thanks.

The book is huge-- and honest, as a former BCC student-- you really don't have to read ahead for the labs.

At school they teach you everything, make you review the steps yourself with other classmates, and make you watch videos on the skills anyway.

I've heard that the first test is on like 600 pages or so of reading, plus I've heard a lot of people have trouble with Process 1 and 2, so I just figured I would order the books and start reading to make sure that I at least had some understanding of whats going on. I figured the labs would be reiterating what we read, and I learn better from doing than from reading anyhow (hence why I wanted to read ahead of time, so that I can read, and reread, etc). I want this so bad, and I don't want to find myself failing out of the program, and from what I hear, there are plenty of those people around. I just want to make sure that I can fulfill this dream. Was the first semester hard for you?

can anyone wtell me who i should take for pharmocology at the north campus please. registration is already open.. please help

Right now it looks like theres only one class at north, and it doesn't say who the professor is. I tried to register for it, but since it's designated as a nursing class, it won't let me. I know you used to be able to take it outside of the program. I wonder if they are changing that.

sunraygurl, i call and registration told me i had to get clearance from the department to sign up for that class. they block me also from registering

When admitted into the nursing program, you'll be able to register for pharm on North campus. If you're not admitted yet, you can take pharm at PBCC and BC will transfer it. You may also be able to take it online through central campus before being admitted into the program.

Oh well thats good then. At least I know they still let us in outside of the program. I think I remember seeing something about you applying at PBCC's program, too. Have you looked into their pharm class??

I was pregnant the first semester of nursing school-- and I was very nervous during those "return demos", where you do your scenario in front of the teacher and it's either you pass or fail.

I don't think that the first semester was "hard", it was just a lot of things to read and understand-- not memorize--

I never read ahead because--- I need a guide to read, I need to know what I need to read to pass.

I wanted to be a nurse for years and years-- and I had already failed nursing school at NSU--- so when I got to BCC I thought of it as a second chance at my dream.... so I lived in the books.

but not that skills book that is presented in the previous post.

I read the lecture book.

It is very true that a lot of people fail--- but I think that if you study hard you can make it, and people that fail don't study very hard.

If you are reading ahead, I would suggest to you is to buy the lecture packet that they sell at the book store for process, so you can have a guide on exactly what to read--- and usually the lab is together there too, so you will know what you will be tested on.

the test won't be 600 pages-- they go by topics, so you may sometimes not read the entire chapter.

At North, I needed to read both books to be successful in Process. Although the text is very similar, my instructor would pull a test question from the one paragraph or sentence that was in the skills book and not in the fundamentals book. My first test covered about 600 pages in text from the fundamentals and skills books. If you plan to attend north campus, visit the instructor's website http://webhome.broward.edu/~gbrickma/calendars.htm, in addition to buying the objectives. Look at the calendar to see what's on the first test. Then, look at the reading schedule to see the coordinating pages and chapters.

Thanks. I already had all the calendar and reading list pages bookmarked. Just waiting for my books to arrive :)
