Broward College Nursing Program August 2016

Updated:   Published

Hello!

I just wanted to make a thread for nursing program at BC for this coming Fall semester.

I passed the Hesi last week after 4 days of studying. (Got tired of studying the Elvesier book so I took my chances)

My overall score: 85%. My lowest score's reading: 78% ( English is my second language and I took this section last so didn't have enough time to really read the questions)

I turned in my application last Wednesday. The lady said to look for an email around May- June.

Anyone is applying for Fall? Did your status on myBC change yet?

mine either! i applied may 2nd and everything is checked off but it doesnt say anything else

Does anyone know if lacking a high school transcript will delay admission? Under records, my high school and the year I graduated is listed, but my GPA is not. Also, under the blue bar (screening for admission) a No appears for high school transcript. The transcripts for my bachelors degree in another academic area is listed in my records, so I thought the high school section could just be assumed. When I reconsidered, I emailed my health science adviser, but she has not replied yet. I can get my transcript from the archives of my local school board (it is too old for my school to still have it) but the last time I did this it took about 3 weeks. Everything else under admissions is fine, so it would be unfortunate to be delayed. Thanks, Mari 55

My status doesn't say anything at all... It doesn't show me anything that has to do with my application being sent or anything.Which is making me so nervous. I sent it in March.

Ya I haven't seen any change either. It's a holiday weekend too so hopefully most of us see something next week if not most definitely the following week. Their beyond torturing us lol . I spoke to an advisor and she said they usually try to process everyone's points closer to the end date of them sending out acceptance letters which doesn't make sense to me bc it freaks people out but okay lol. Everyone just hang in there like me we got 2 weeks!

Hey guys!!!

Congrats on choosing nursing a a career. BC is one of the best school to obtain your ASN from, however you have to make a lot of sacrifices to make it through. I'm a senior student and I can say it is hard, real hard but doable at the same time. I know some people will tell you that they worked throughout the program, but most of them had to stop at some point because the load of stuff we have to do is just crazy.

Hey! What would you say is the hardest part? Can you offer us newbies some advice to succeed

Well!!!

I would have to stay for me and some of my fellow classmates the hardest part is getting through Ortho/Neuro which comes after your 3 specialty rotations, so don't worry about that yet.

-Start by making a schedule for yourself and stick to it. Don't procrastinate and don't say you are going to have time to read or do homework because stuff get pilled up and then you get overwhelmed.

-Read, read, study hard and understand what you are studying. Nursing school's exams are not like A&P exams nor Micro. You definitely have to understand and be able to apply the information. You do have some knowledge questions but it's mostly applications.

-Don't stay in study group that doesn't profit you, you'll pay for that. Pick your study group partners by your second to third lecture and choose people that look like they want to get something out of this. Stay away from chatters. Do not cultivate negativity....

-Read before class and before meeting with your study group and do not read in study group instead study, explain and try to understand concepts together.

-Come to class ready with all your updated papers in order. Read your book and if there is discrepancies between what teacher says and book, point it out and get clarification on it.

-Practice skills in lab and know steps and reasons of doing them.

-Lastly, you are the only person you truly knows yourself so do what's best for you and be ready to work hard. The program didn't get hard for me until Ortho/Neuro. English is my second language too, I'm still new in the states, but I'm doing well. I'm scheduled to graduate in August. Don't worry you can do it. Just man up:yes::)

Hello everyone! I completely agree with stel1. I'm in process 1 and it's been tough adapting. I regret not reading before the program started but to be fair we didn't get the syllabus until 2 days before the first day. I'm doing well but it's tough. Is it doable? Absolutely. It's a different way of thinking and to some it comes naturally while others struggle. Some people will have to work harder than others. So don't believe all the negative things you hear. More often then not the people talking bad about the program didn't do well because of their own doing. Just stay focused, work hard and wash your hands lol (sorry couldn't help myself we just finished infection control and everything was about washing your hands)
