Hello!
I just wanted to make a thread for nursing program at BC for this coming Fall semester.
I passed the Hesi last week after 4 days of studying. (Got tired of studying the Elvesier book so I took my chances)
My overall score: 85%. My lowest score's reading: 78% ( English is my second language and I took this section last so didn't have enough time to really read the questions)
I turned in my application last Wednesday. The lady said to look for an email around May- June.
Anyone is applying for Fall? Did your status on myBC change yet?
mine status got updated also saying its in review so im trying to be hopeful that could be good
GPA for the nursing is based off of the prerequisites for the program only. This includes A&P 1 and 2, BOTH with labs, and ENC1101 ONLY.
The college math is a requirement but NOT calculated into the GPA pulled.
The point system includes:
For example:
16 points = 4.0
15 points = 3.9
14 points = 3.8
13 points = 3.7
12 points = 3.6
11 points = 3.5
10 points = 3.4
9 points = 3.3
8 points = 3.2
7 points = 3.1
6 points = 3.0
5 points = 2.9
etc etc.
I've only heard of people getting in with AT LEAST 5 points.
A lot of people's applications have updated today! Which is so exciting!
My friends and I have all received our points. All ranging from 9-16 points for us.
We do have friends that have gotten into the program with 5-6 points but I know some get pooled into standby.
Just be hopeful! If worse case scenario, some don't get in, I would retake the lowest pre-req class and boost the GPA and apply for the following term. It's a hard program and the prerequisites are just hard as well. Stay hopeful!
Actually for this last semester which was the May entrance they only accepted people with 3.0 which is 6 points. I know because I know someone who got in and it said it on his acceptance email as well as in the previous allnursing post for May 2016 BC they posted what their emails said which was what my friend told me they only accepted people with a 3.0 and up. People with 2.5 -2.9 were the ones who got the alternates and standby seats. So 3.0 equal to 6 points and up are basically in. Also I attended the information session for nursing and the nursing director said they accept the highest first 3.0 and up then anyone below which would be 2.9-2.5. Therefore 6 points which is equivalent to 3.0 are good no worries.

Right! I've attended those as well. There have been past cases where people with 5 points which are 2.9 GPAs were accepted after being on the standby list. I was trying to shed some hope and light to those whose GPAs aren't as high.
I knew the program would be tough so I made sure to work like hell during the prereq courses and get the GPA I have. All I can say to those who are stressed is, that even if they aren't accepted, there is still a chance. You only get what you put into it. If you want to get into the program and don't get accepted this term, take whatever courses resulted in a C and aim for higher. That will boost the GPAs. There is always a way.
For those with the 3.0 and higher, I'm excited for what's to come for us.
As I worked hard for my 3.0 gpa while being a mother of two young children. The point is of course people who have a higher than the required gpa have a better chance. Although it also depends on the amount of students applying so even if some other students have lower gpas then that shouldn't worry them because who knows how many people are going to apply. They allow about 300 students so maybe everyone will get in no matter if they have a 2.5 gpa or 4.0. I just feel people need to be more sensitive of everyone's situation. I hope everyone gets in if nursing is truly your passion. No one needs to brag about their gpa. I got a 3.0 while taking care of my two children under 5 while also working full time. Which I have stopped now since I can't while in the program. Everyone has a situation. So everyone be nice and respectful. :) Good luck everyone and hopefully we can continue speaking. :)
its sad that a gpa can determine whether or not you can succeed in your career
im not a good student on paper, but in the medical field my work shows for its self. its my passion for this which is why im continuing and why i wont give up. if this isnt your calling i think you shouldnt be doing it, it takes the opportunity away from the ones who want is badly. i worked hard for my gpa yes it may not be as high as all of yours but it was my best being how difficult it was for me. gpas shouldnt prove whos better than another people, everyone is different
i do also hope we get in together it would be great, we all seem like we want it for the right reasons.

Yes, that is true some people are more hands on. Everyone has their own way of learning and that's fine. I also feel they should have more of a practical test way to decide if one gets in that way it can be fare to everyone. Some people even got sick while in school had surgery and what not. So a gpa does not make anyone better than anyone else. I'm sure they also know that. As of now I also see everyone on this post seems very determined on becoming a nurse and for the right reasons. So that shows a lot from everyone. Good job to everyone. Getting to this point already shows a lot of determination. Not only did we have to pass those classes but we had to pass the HESI. So that is great of everyone. If you want it bad enough it will happen.
