Anyone else palnning on applying for May 2011. Im currently in the process of transferring back to broward and I am planning on applying for May. I have all my pre-reqs done and I already took and passed the HESI, and I also have HOSA so I think I may be in a good position(fingers crossed). I just need to take Micro & I plan on taking that in the winter term. If anyone can recommend a teacher I would greatly appreciate it.
Good Luck to everyone waiting to get in for May 2011.. I got accepted for the Jan 2011 program at North Campus and I must say I love it so far! Its a lot of info that you have to know and you're going to have to put in a lot of time just for Nursing Process but I know we'll be able to do it. I'm learning soo much and I'm meeting a lot of new people. Mrs. Brickman is THE BEST and I just wanted to say I made it in the program with 9 points!! so if anyone out there is a bit intimidated you can still do it. If anyone has anymore questions just ask and I'd be more than happy to answer. Good Luck!!
Thanks so much for all that info!! There is SO much to take in!!! Quick question, is the health care core you are talking about, the 5 courses that need to be completed before you start nursing school? Also, what is the exact name of the clinical book you are talking about to practice now? Once again, thank you!! :)

No.. the Health Career Core class is a class you take at BC. You dont get a grade, its just a pass/fail class. The 5 courses you do after you get accepted. The Clinical boom is Clinical Skills and Techniques by Perry and Potter. But I DO NOT recommend reading/teaching yourself things ahead of time because every teacher is different and all clinical instructors like when you do things "their way."

I'm sorry, but I have to point something out here- the instructors accept performing certain skills a different way or in different orders than the book presents them, but if you do your vital signs or demo or whatever you need to perform the way that the book says to do them in, you will be doing the skill exactly right- it is our textbook, it is what we study, it is what our skills cards are written from, it is what we use when we practice in the lab (that or our cards which are from the book). So studying ahead of time will only help, and not confuse. If anything, Health Care Core will be more of a confusion, because in there, there may be some differing methods. I think it would definitely be more beneficial to start studying something than studying nothing. Especially a textbook we use and that our pass or fail and success in our performance is based off of.
Also, some people will say there is not memorization on the exams, but we took our first today, and at least for the first, our teacher put lots of either only minimally critical thinking questions or simply memorization questions. It's a lot of material to be tested on in 2 weeks (11 chapters) so it wouldn't HURT to study the theory textbook (Fundamentals of Nursing by Perry Potter).
The Clinical book I'm talking about is indeed the Perry Potter Clinical book, you can find a booklist for nursing classes on the Broward bookstore website. They also list recommended textbooks. :)
If anyone has ANY questions about the program, simply pm me. I'll get it sent to my blackberry and I'll reply:) I'd prefer you just to e-mail me, let's see if they'll let me post my e-mail address here- [email protected]
If you are small, get your uniform from the bookstore as soon as possible. They sell quick. I needed my tops altered. You need the blue polo, which has to be worn to every class other than clinical, and the scrub top, and scrub pants- but I bought my scrub pants elsewhere- again, I'm small, so they didn't have my size. You can buy pants somewhere else but they have to be Cherokee brand and no slits at the bottom, and must match the exact royal blue color.
I can't send pm's quite yet... I have a few questions about the uniforms. This is probably the least thing I should be worried about but there's really not much else I can do right now-at least before orientation.
1) What is the smallest size scrub top and polo shirt they sell at the bookstore?
2) How many scrub tops/bottoms do you actually need or are required to have?
3) Where did you get your uniform alterations done?
