Broward College January 2019

Published

Hey everyone!

I know it's a little early to start this but I just submitted my application yesterday and wanted to know if anyone else has submitted theirs yet.

I am looking to go to Central campus and I'm impatiently waiting to see if I have been accepted.

That's great that you created this forum.

I plan on enrolling in the 2019 January program as well.

I have a 3.09 prereq gpa

I was planning on re taking a course to bring my GPA higher and an advisor told me that they are no longer accepting Retakes starting January 2019.

would my chances of getting into the program better because of this change?

Also has anyone taken the Hesi? What are some good pointers?

Any former people in the program? what were some of your experiences?

I took the HESI last week too. I got a 90 overall. 80 in anatomy. I have 2 books that really helped me and the Pocketprep app helped a lot too. My pre-req GPA is 3.8. I'm not sure about the retakes, but that may weed out a lot of the competition.

I would like to enroll in the Jan 2019 cycle but I might have to wait until the summer of 2019, due to a class or two that will be in progress during the fall. Overall my interest is within BC's nursing program, so I'm solely working towards that. Please list how you've studied for the HESI and the tools you're using. What I've been doing is going to the library everyday and studying for a minimum of 4 hours using the Hesi Admissions Assessment and Exam Review Book. I love this book due to It breaks everything down in simple steps and also explains why this is the answer they're looking for. Correct me if I'm wrong, the calculation of the GPA during 2019 is based upon having English Composition, A&PI and Lab, and A&P II and Lab? with also College Algebra but It is not calculated in the GPA? just required.

I'm planning to submit my application no later than the end of next week. I took the HESI last week. I used quizlets, the official book and pocketprep app. Did anyone here take Microbiology as yet?

Awesome! pocket prep and quizlet are the best ways to study I've been hearing. I found a few tools for the HESI i'll list them below.

Sorry waiting for my comment to post (It has other helpful links). The system states they have to verify that its not spam due to all the HESI links I added.

Hope they help :)

Hey everyone! I am planning on attending the broward college nursing program for the fall of 2019. I have A&P II, ethics, College algebra, and microbiology left to complete before I apply, all of which I'll be done with come may of next year so I'd greatly appreciate it if you guys wouldn't mind sharing your application process and the steps you have to take before getting in. Hope you all make it in the program ! :)

Hello everyone,

So here's what I know from stalking the 2018 August forum and emailing the nursing admin department. Don't quote me though I could be wrong. It looks like the points admitted into that pool were 8 to 16. Some of the people with 8 points were chosen as alternates. 8 point would be a 3.2 GPA. However! For the 2019 January pool prerequisite classes that were retaken for a higher grade will not count toward your prerequisite GPA. Meaning your first successful attempt in AP1, AP1 lab, AP2, AP2 lab, and ENG are what will be counted towards your GPA. I'm hopping this will be a good thing and possibly lower the overall average of GPAs of people applying. I think I have a 3.3 GPA which is 9 points and cutting it too close for comfort when considering the August pool admitted 8-16 points. Also, some of their limited access application stuff wasn't update to show their points until a few days before, or the day of decisions going out so we will all be pretty much going crazy with anticipation until the very end. Also, the decisions go out 30 'business' days after the application period closes. Being that the application period for January 2019 closes September 15th I believe, decisions won't be out until the end of October. Also, apparently we don't choose our campus until registration. We will have to choose our classes at the campus we want when registering before the classes for that campus fills up. I hope this helps and please correct me if I'm wrong!

*before that campus fills up*

I might end up applying for the summer19 term or fall19, but for now I've also been using the fall 2018 forum as a guide. Does anyone want to study for the HESI with myself?

Yup I agree. I saw a lot of people upset about them only using your first successful attempt to calculate your prereq gpa however I think this is perfect. My grades are as follow:

ENC1101: B

BSC2085/L: B

BSC2086L: B (I Have to retake the lecture)

And honestly they're good grades and if I were to receive an A this fall semsester in the anatomy 2 lecture my prereq Gpa would be a 3.2 (8 points). I too have been stalking quite a few forums about the BC program and have noticed that a lot of people went to Keiser to get a higher grade for their prereq classes since they had a C or B and ended up with 16 points(4.0 gpa). Also, BCs program is no joke and I heard that after the first semester you'd be lucky if over 50% of your class survives. I know nursing school will be hard regardless of where one attends but BCs program is famous for putting out the best of the best and hospitals in South Florida respect BC grads so you will have jobs lined up upon graduation. I'm nervous and excited as my prereq journey is coming to an end. I just hope you all can keep us updated on the application process and the program itself once you get in. :)
