Broward College January 2011

Published

New thread started for all those applying for / accepted to / attending Broward College January 2011. Chime in, let us know how you're doing!

i set up a page on a social network site that rhymes with tastebook and i called it "broward college nursing jan 2011" :) everyone can use this site to share ideas with and schedule meetings on. better plan now, i can' t tell you how many of my prior students had to drop out because they didn't know how much work was ahead of them. i worked for a university here in florida (that i don't recommend at all) and nyu in nyc. trust me, everyone thinks they are ready...but few get to stay and play.

can you pm me the link. i cant seem to find the group.

Went to orientation this morning and registered to take the CEUs online (through BCC) right after. It wasn't that expensive, less than $75 for all 4. I also went to the bookstore at Central to look at some texts because I am ready to get started reading already. I was informed that some of the required books for the first few classes in the program are going to be changing for next semester. So, it's probably best to wait until we get specific updated book lists before we start buying them. Maybe some of them are fine to get, like the drug guide and the medical dictionary. The one from North Campus that was posted on this thread is not going to be accurate for those of us attending at Central. Just thought I'd post the tiny bit of information I learned after the orientation. Best of luck to everyone!

For South Campus we got the book list in an email today with a lot of other information...everyone check your emails. (if you haven't already)

Ok, Pre Admissions is over, Now I hope I can find motivated classmates to agree to get together before school starts.

The first semester will be very hard. (mostly because of bad planning) Nation wide the drop rate is 50% that means half of the people in pre admissions will drop out before the semester is over. I've worked in higher education for 7 years (prior Director of Student Services) and this is a FACT. If you don't plan to win you plan to lose! I'm hoping to find Palm Beach classmates to study with since I live in WPB.

Count me in............

Ok so today at orientation I was super confused when she was talking about the health core classes. I took them at sheridan along with some other people here. The hours match with the requirements she had up on the projector. Now, I got lost when she started talking about the waiver and override and if they would be accepted.. help please!!

You were not alone on the CONFUSION. :lol2: I was as well. I asked the question and maybe I was not understood, but I just left it alone. They will let me know what I NEED! They were a bit rude  shall I say, but I did not want to argue, I just let it be. Sometimes things are better left unsaid. And this is what I did after my question was not answered and misunderstood.

I haven't received it.

Could you post it or email it to me please

ralphigesbabe...did I meet you today at the finger-printing place? I feel like those missed connection ads on Craigslist LOL!

The waiver has nothing to do with the CEU certificate. If you work in the health field(CNA, Paramedic..etc) you are exempt from the classes, however you still have to have your certificate.

Like she stated you might have taken a courses at another school that fulfills BCC requirement and received a waiver. (I took ENC 2309 at a private school-- BCC accepted ENC 2309 as ENC 1109---I received a waiver for ENC 1109.) Now if my registration was held up because the system does not recognize my waiver than I would have to see an adviser to receive an override to allow me to register.

I hope this helps. If I'm mistaken feel free to correct me.

count me in as well!

It did help thanks =]

so basically if something is wrong we will be emailed, Hopefully

It might be best to go ahead and schedule an appointment with an advisor prior to registration just to make sure that you're good to go. I have taken everything at BC and I still plan to meet with a counselor to be 100% sure I'll be able to register on November 3. I wouldn't leave it in Broward's hands to let you know if there is a problem!

And PS- I haven't gotten any e-mails yet! Anyone else in the same situation?
