Broward College applicants for Fall 2009

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Did anyone already turn in there applications for Fall 2009 @ B.C.? because I am turning mine in next week before the deadline and now I have to wait AGAIN and keep continually looking at my e-mail and the myBC account for the Limited Access Program everyday hopefully I get in THIS TIME being my 3rd time :yeah:

i didn't start working until the 3rd semester. i wouldn't advice anyone to work during the first semester, but people do it.

i can't say because south's dean has different requirements.

when you worked, did you work in the medical field etc??

is it true that after the first semessterm you can do cna work etc.

congrats.. you made it? are you studying for 3 months before you take your boards?

which campus did you go to?

i liver very near to south and central, but dont know if north is the best in regards to the teachers..

i only used the following during my first semester:

process i

the modules (a packet in the bookstore) - i answered the objectives to study for the test.

fundamentals book - must have, will use for process i & ii. don't buy the fundamentals study guide. it doesn't have any critical thinking questions, just fill in the blank low level questions.

skills book - must have, will use for process i, ii, gi/gu, ortho/neuro, cardio

jarvis physical assessment pocket companion - will use the entire program, great to learn how to appropriately assess.

cox clinical care plan book - will use to write careplans. used once at end of process one and then, used

in every class throughout program.

process ii

lab kit - overpriced with outdated equipment, but mandatory

davis drug guide - either the book or an electronic program on palm pilot or phone

fluid & electrolyte made easy - a great supplement to understand f & e

plus all of the books from process i

pharm

lilley study guide

packet

you don't need the pharm book.

some students use the fundamental success and/or test success books. however, i didn't use any of those type of supplements.

hi leavingteaching,

i know you have probably been asked this before, but i cant find it in any of your posts. did you find the e-books helpful? i dont plan on buying the books with the cd, but i wanted your opinion.

thanks!!

when you worked, did you work in the medical field etc?? no, i've never worked in the medical field.

is it true that after the first semessterm you can do cna work etc. i've heard this, but i don't know if it's true or not.

congrats.. thanks. you made it? are you studying for 3 months before you take your boards? absolutely not! i will take the boards as soon as i receive my authorization to test. the longer i wait, the more i'll forget. i only plan to study one or two subjects. i can wing the rest.

which campus did you go to? north.

i liver very near to south and central, but dont know if north is the best in regards to the teachers..

i can't say. i've heard this, but the teachers at north aren't great either. i've heard that south was pretty bad. rumor is they only do case studies, no lectures. regardless of which campus you attend, be prepared to read a lot and teach yourself.

the cd that comes with the bundle is helpful when you write care plans. i didn't use it for much else.

About deferring...

I applied for August with the plan that I would defer to January. However, my husband and I had decided for me to go ahead and start this semester (something I wasn't planning on, but am doing and am now trying to get mentally ready for, lol). Anyway, when I was still trying to decide about deferring or not, I had emailed Twana and asked her if I had to defer to next semester or if I could defer to another semester. Her answer was that I could defer to whatever semester I wanted to, but it can only be done ONCE. Once you defer, you either have to go to the semester you deferred to, or reapply. As far as whether or not the deferring option will be there in the future, who knows. This semester it was still an option. If I hear any rumors, I'll let you know ;)

Thanks!!! SunRay

leavingteaching,

does the bundle come with just one cd or one with each book? if it is one with each book then which cd has the care plans?

thanks!

I am turning in all my paperwork today. Do they get the originals certificates from the CEUs or copies. On the paper that they gave us, it says turn in copies of all of the following paperwork which implies that they just get a copy of everything and I keep the originals. Just want to make sure this is the case. Thanks.

I didnt know we had to buy all white shoes...can they be any brand??

Also were are you guys buying your stethoscope?? at the campus bookstore?? or at a medical store???

Does anyone know which one we have to get??? I think the first day of clinicals at South you need to have it already...

At South we dont have an orientation like North and Central our orientation is the first day of clinicals I believe so I just want to make sure I have the necessary things.

Do they pay attention if you buy a different style of pants than what is in the bookstore, as long as it is the same brand and color? I tried on the ones form the book store today and they feel a little awkward.

I bought the tops today at the bookstore, but I was going to try to get the pants somewhere else. I turned in all my paperwork today.

When you turned in your paperwork, did you just give the copy of your receipt from the fingerprint place or did you send something else with it? All I got back was the receipt.
