Brother needs a liver transplant

Published

Just found out my brother has Hepatitus and needs a liver transplant. He's been sick for weeks. We all assumed it was from scrapping coral while scuba diving in MEX. We thought the onset of a severe infection was causing his symptoms of weakness. And his inability to walk was due to the area where the scrape occurred. WRONG.

He's been put on the transplant list at Duke University. If any of you know the "in's and out's" of organ transplant, please email me. We are truly devastated that we may loose him.

Please keep him in your prayers. And, thank you in advance for any info you can offer.

Maggie, am so sorry to hear that. I don't know anything about transplants, but just wanted to say you'll all be in my thoughts, and will be praying for him.

Hi Maggie, while I don't work with liver transplants, I do work with renal/pulmonary/pancreas transplants at Duke. Feel free to PM me if you have questions, I do know several of the transplant coordinators for the hospital. I will pray for your brother and family.

I am ignorant about liver transplant waiting lists and procedures, sorry. But I do wish to voice my support and thoughts for you and your brother. I will say a silent prayer that his need for a new liver is fulfilled and he can go on to recover and live life to its fullest. I am so sorry you are all going through this. What an ordeal.

Maggie, so sorry to hear about your brother. I sincerely hope he'll be o.k.

Maggie, I'm so sorry. I know nothing about liver transplants. Isn't there a possibility though of live donors at times?

Hi Maggie,

I will be keeping your brother and entire family in my prayers. And also for the family of the future donor. Liver transplants can be long and intense. I've had one go 16 hours. They can require LOTS of blood products, more than one can possibly imagine. It is a very serious surgery. With that said, I've had people come in for a minor surgery, such as an ortho case, with previous liver transplant. A very good and productive life can follow a liver transplant. I will pray for the very best for your brother!

Hugs and prayers coming your way Maggie and I hope for the best possible outcome for your brother.

echoing what others have already stated, i too pray for a healthy outcome for your brother.

with peace,

leslie
