Hi!
I can't seem to locate a thread regarding applicants for Brookhaven's fall 2015 nursing program... so I wanted to start one! If there is another, please redirect me- thanks!
I plan to apply in February for acceptance to Brookhaven's fall 2015 class. I am working on my dosage calculations course by 2/20 (cutting it close!) and that is all I have left! It looks like they changed the point scoring system since just a few months ago- did anyone see that? I am always looking for guidance and support in this process, so, I am hoping this thread can provide that for me and everyone else involved!
I look forward to virtually meeting other BH fall '15 applicants!
That's what I thought too- it must've been all the applicants for this semester. If that's the case, I'm surprised at how low the number is.. However, a friend of mine mentioned that maybe it's because the change in prereqs/points so abruptly may have knocked a lot of people out of the running.
I am nosy too! I am glad you asked, because it would be fun to find these things out before we all get into school together :) I'll start: I work at UTSW Medical Center in Dallas, but not in a clinical setting. I also do some consulting for a small business- mostly I manage their social media and search engine optimization. I live in Dallas proper, not far from downtown (and I love it!) with my boyfriend, who is a Dallas Firefighter, and my dog who is the cutest 95 lb mutt in the whole entire world. His name is Patrick and I looooovveee him. No kids.. those will have to wait after I finish my career transition.
I have another question to add to Amber's- what kind of nurse do ya'll want to be?? What is your end goal? My end goal is to have my NP.. I am really interested in psych... but as I age I am finding interest in peds and L&D however, I am also interested in working as a fertility nurse.. I think it would be incredibly fulfilling to help people complete their dreams of having a family. I am looking forward to clinicals though, to help me decide.. I know that the options are endless in nursing. We are so lucky for that! If I were not in a serious relationship, with a dog.. I would do travel nursing all the way. That was what I wanted to do forever!! But, I am not sure how realistic it is for me anymore:)
Your job sounds great! I have always thought that working in social media would be fun, I mean who doesn't want to play on twitter and facebook for a living? I'd love it! :)
I work at an internal medicine clinic as a medical assistant. I also live in Dallas (near SMU) with my boyfriend of 6 years and our 3 lb yorkie named Binky. So I'm a dog lover too :) No kids here either. Gotta get school finished first!
I'm definitely interested in seeing all specializations during nursing school, but if I had to choose now I would pick peds, L&D or trauma or ER. I like kids, and I also like different, new stuff each day. Where I work now, I see the same thing each day and it gets a little tedious. I think that's why I would want something so exciting as the ER so I would see all sorts of cases.

Does anyone who has interviewed before know if when they email us to let us know if we are accepted or not, if you are on the waiting list did they tell you which number you are?
