Brookhaven Nursing Fall 2015

Published

Hi!

I can't seem to locate a thread regarding applicants for Brookhaven's fall 2015 nursing program... so I wanted to start one! If there is another, please redirect me- thanks!

I plan to apply in February for acceptance to Brookhaven's fall 2015 class. I am working on my dosage calculations course by 2/20 (cutting it close!) and that is all I have left! It looks like they changed the point scoring system since just a few months ago- did anyone see that? I am always looking for guidance and support in this process, so, I am hoping this thread can provide that for me and everyone else involved!

I look forward to virtually meeting other BH fall '15 applicants!

Congratulations on your acceptance!

I'm sure after the holidays more members will be online to respond to your questions.

I wish you success in your program!

Hi dianah! I haven't been accepted... yet, but am hoping I will be! I am also hoping this post will attract other fall '15 hopefuls so we can have a little support system!

Hey, thanks for starting a thread! I haven't seen another one yet, so I think you're it :)

I am applying to BH also for Fall '15. I applied last semester as well. I knew I probably didn't have enough points, but I wanted to go through the process and get a feel for it. Good luck with DC mod, the final seems like a beating (being 100 questions) but it's doable, stay positive!

Ahh, yay! It's more than just me! I was losing faith in this post:) HAve you stopped into the nursing office to go over your packet, etc etc? I did just last week and man do I feel relieved and more prepared than ever to apply! I am taking a DC final this Saturday (there's a new class format) to see what I need to study for my last 2 attempts.. but hoping I will pass on my first attempt! Do you have any insight on the most important stuff to remember for that final? I have been studying my rear end off..this is the only thing standing in my way of application next month! I wish you the best of luck!!

I'll take my packet before the deadline and have them look it over for me. They are really helpful in the BH nursing office. The DC final was a bit of a pain because it was so long, but I do remember thinking that there were more conversions than I expected and less IV calculations. I had a spiral notebook full of notes and calculations that I kept throughout the course and I spent about 1.5 hours on the final trying to be meticulous about it and I passed it on the first try with a 91, so I think you will be fine. Good luck!

Yeah! They are SO helpful! I was really pleasantly surprised and it really took the edge off for me. Thanks for the insight, I am hoping I can ace it Saturday and then turn in my application on Tuesday, and then be done with it! Fingers crossed! Do you know about how many points you are applying with? I am not sure how often you look at the website, but, they did change some things recently regarding the calculation of points, etc. I'm sure you have seen it by now, but if not, I wanted to give you a heads up:)

Eelittle, congrats on pursuing the Nursing program. Me and one of my guy friends are trying to do the same thing. I believe he is applying for Fall with Mountainview while I'm applying for Brookhaven in the Spring. I'm currently taking A&P I with J. Slone. If available, I want to take A&P II and Micro during the maymester and summer. May be a dumb question, but exactly how "competitive" is the program? I know there only so many slots, but do people generally have to apply two or three times before they get accepted? Also do they give extra points for job experience?...Getting my CNA License. I've been so nervous lately, I barely have any fingernails!:(

They dont give points for health care experience but El centro does I think? You can substitute your healthcare experience to one of those hprs classes, not really sure. You can check the packet online

Good for you! You know, I am not positive how competitive the program is. All of the insight I have is from reading the other threads here on allnurses regarding the Brookhaven program. The Brookhaven Fall 2014 thread is particularly helpful! There I learned that for fall applicants, they take the top 70 applicants for interviews and then accept the top 60 applicants after tallying interview points. I know the spring class size is smaller, but I would imagine it would be the same odds? I also learned there that nearly all of the participants in that thread made it in their first application period.. but that doesn't mean other people not on the thread hadn't applied many times before. I will check with the nursing office Friday when I submit my application for the fall. As far as how many people apply, I have NO idea. I will ask that too and report back:) I am also quite nervous..but underneath that feel confident only because I have worked so hard and made this a priority. I have tried to be as diligent as possible in the process. I hope with everything I make it in for fall 2015 but worst case scenario I would apply again for Spring 2016 with the last preregs under my belt ( I am currently taking micro and pharm this semester but they don't count toward my fall application) for even more points. One word of advice is to constantly check the Brookhaven nursing page.. I have noticed that it changes (or at least has changed recently) pretty often as far as prereqs.. points.. and other class formats (ie: dosage calculations went from an online format to an in class format this last time, and I had NO idea until I happened to check the page again)...and thank goodness I did because I almost missed registering for Dosage Calc.. which would have ruined my chances for fall application!. I don't believe Brookhaven gives points for healthcare experience.. but El Centro may.. it's worth looking into!

Here is the link to the Brookhaven Fall 2014 applicants page.. it is really helpful. Long, but worth the read for us hopefuls! I am hoping this thread will also turn into such a supportive thread!

Thanks eelittle, out of curiosity, why wouldn't micro and pharm count for fall if it's a requirement?
