Brookhaven Nursing applicants - Spring 2018

Published

This is a forum for anyone applying to Brookhaven college ADN program for Spring 2018.What tips can you offer? Any challenges? How was the dosage calculation exam? Any tips for the critical thinking exam and the interview? How many points are you applying with?

If you don't mind me asking, how many points do you currently have? Also, I would say you go ahead and apply. Some people might apply and choose other locations. It's also possible you will interview well and others will not, thus increasing your odd of acceptance. It never hurts to apply, at least gives you a chance to see if everything is in line in the event you have to reapply for another semester.

I had to go back and look at the email. I applied this time last year, for spring 2017, with 28.93 points. And those would be the same points this year, because I was not able to take additional classes. But I plan to this fall semester. I know that they won't count, but I will have the classes for when I can apply at Brookhaven, or somewhere else.

I see what you're saying. 28.93 might not be a 34 but it's possible beacuse who knows what people will be applying with this time around. What courses are you still needing? Also, what did you score on your HESI and CT exam?

HESI--87.2 ( and I am not retaking)

CT--11.4

I am just needing supporting courses: A/P 2, Pharmacolocy, Patho. I have Ethics and Microbiology. I am going to take A/P2 and another course in the Fall. I will take courses for points to apply later. I just need to see the Spring admission requirements (if there are changes from the Fall).

Hello!

I'm currently taking A&P I in summer I and I'll do A&P II in July. So far my GPA is a 3.7 and I've got a 95% in A&P I. I'm trying to get health insurance through the market place before i get the shots i need (and I'm waiting on my doctors office to tell me which vaccines i've already gotten!). I'm a little bit worried about getting a place for the HESI exam. They say to book it early but it doesn't even open until late August! Should I wake up early on the first day and call as soon as the test center opens to ensure my place or is it not such a big deal?

I just purchased the drug calc. text book. I was wondering, are we able to use a calculator on the exams for that? also, can we take the test on any of the class days listed?

Thanks yall!

PArker, how'd you do on your D&C exam?

@shuffman I passed with a 96! Honestly is a pretty easy test, mostly conversions which I got to be very good at in chemistry. The textbook is pretty confusing so I worked the problems and checked my answers but didn't read most of the rationale. Thanks for asking!

Hey y'all, so I missed my pharm final - so there goes three points! I'm now right at 29 points so I will certanly be retaking my HESI and my D&C course!! How about y'all -- where are y'all at point wise? Also, all of the other threads for the ADN program at BHC were full of people.. I wonder if minimal activity on this thread means there's less people potientally applying for the Spring semester? thoughts?

I hope so! The less competition the better. I really REALLY want to get in for Spring. and I feel like if I can at least get thru to the interview I have a better chance, I can make a good impression.

So far the only points I have for sure is a 4.0 on the prereqs. I'm looking at a B in A&P II so that will be 2 more points. I'm worried about the HESI honestly, hoping for an 85 at worst, hopefully a 95ish. but I think I'll do well on the crit. thinking test, I'm usually pretty good with that sort of stuff.

Shuffman, what was the hardest part of the HESI when you took it?

Does the DC exam give points or is it just a requirement? Like, does my 96 do me more good than a 90?

Congrats on the D&C exam!

The HESI itself was not hard, I got about an 88 on each section and that was with mild preperation. So, I will be utilizing the teh two books I talked about in the intro paragraph, I have the links for them there!

LAstly, have you taken the CT exam yet?

Thanks! I was told (By an adviser) the CT exam was part of the HESI. Do I need to sign up for it separately?

Which advisor told you that because they are wrong - was it an ADN staff member? Anyways, the HESI has a critical thinking section -- some schools want that -- however, BCH doesn't. In fact, they have thier own version and you will have to take it in the testing center....

Here's what they have on the website...

"!!Take the Critical Thinking Exam!!

A critical thinking exam is required to apply to the Brookhaven College Nursing Program. The exam is offered Aug. 1-Sept. 30 and Jan. 2-Feb. 28. You may only take the exam at the Brookhaven College Testing Center once per application period. The exam is good for two years. There is no charge for the exam. The exam is a 50 question exam and you have two hours to take the exam. The exam will time out after two hours. You are not allowed to back track during the exam. Remember to print off your score after the exam to turn in with your application packet.

To register for the critical thinking exam, please go to eCampus, then go under Access Courses, then go under the Community tab. Search for Critical Thinking Exam and register for the Critical Thinking Exam Community.

You will need your student ID to register for the exam. After registering for the critical thinking exam, please print off the testing permission slip found in the Critical Thinking Exam Community.

Take the testing permission slip with you to the Brookhaven College Testing Center to take the critical thinking exam."

Hope that helps!!

*****The only sessions you'll need on the HESI are "Reading, Grammar, Vocabulary, Math and Anatomy & Physiology."************

@shuffman17 oh wow thank you so much! I would have been kicking myself if I missed the exam! And no, it was a regular advisor at brookhaven.
