Brookhaven Nursing applicants - Spring 2018

Published

This is a forum for anyone applying to Brookhaven college ADN program for Spring 2018.What tips can you offer? Any challenges? How was the dosage calculation exam? Any tips for the critical thinking exam and the interview? How many points are you applying with?

I wonder how many they accept for each Fall and Spring class?

They accept 60 in Fall and 40 in Spring I believe.

@KendraMarburger @shuffman thanks so much for your responses! Especially about where to get my shots, I'm gonna see if I can stop by tomorrow.

I am back to try again. I did not make the cut last year. I am a little afraid because I have not been able to take any additional classes. But I have to try. I know their maybe requirements changes. I am waiting to see the Spring 2018 requirements. I did not see them on the website. It still had Fall 2017 schedules and deadlines.

Where do you take the two practices test for dosage calculation?

Hi there, I'm a recent grad of the Brookhaven program so I will try to help where I can. My first suggestion is to make sure all your prerequisites are out of the way because once you're in the program you're going to want that to be your primary focus. As far as challenges go, nursing school in general is a challenge but with determination & will power, you can definitely come out on top & successful. The dosage & calculations exam is fairly easy, as long as you do the two practice exams then the actual test should be a piece of cake. I never had to take the critical thinking exam so hopefully someone else who has taken it can help you there. I'll direct some of my friends who are currently in the program to your post and maybe they can help. The interview is intimidating but looking back on it, it really wasn't that bad, my suggestion is once you get your email invite for the interview, schedule a mock interview in the career services department at Brookhaven, the questions asked there are basically the same questions that will be asked in the interview.

I believe that answers most your questions, to my ability. Feel free to ask whatever else comes to mind & good luck!!

When you register for the dosage calculation workshop thru continuing ed you can log onto ecampus and the course content will be available. I believe it's under "final exam practice" or something.

Thank you.

Okay, I talked to Barbra Huntsberger. Now, as she said and I will reinforce, what I am about to say is not a guarantee, just a guideline as each pool is different. Anyways, for the last application pool, it took about 34 points to earn an interview. This current application pool (us) will be more competitive as there are less spots available. Generally, I think it's taken about 7/8 points above the minimum to be considered competive.

I often wondered why they accept fewer students in the spring? If the number of points to be considered competitive is 34, I don't think I will be applying for the Spring 2018 class.

If you don't mind me asking, how many points do you currently have? Also, I would say you go ahead and apply. Some people might apply and choose other locations. It's also possible you will interview well and others will not, thus increasing your odd of acceptance. It never hurts to apply, at least gives you a chance to see if everything is in line in the event you have to reapply for another semester.
