Nursing Students General Students

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to get a thread started for all of the BHC/MVC students; please help me get a support system going here. I am starting at BHC in Jan. 07 and would love to make contact with the other new students. It would also be great if the current students would join in too, maybe share some advise;) /horror stories.:uhoh21: I'm sure that you current students have a lot to say.

El Centro/Northlake has a couple of really good threads going, but it would sure be great to talk with those I will be going to school with too.

Good Luck to everyone!

Hey current students I have a question...what the heck is the SPAR stuff that we are required to do? Any info would be great :)

Also, does anyone know if the off campus bookstore carries the supply kit that we need for skills lab? The stupid bookstore on campus ran out...drives me crazy! They know there will be 40 1st semester students...how do you not order enough! (thanks for letting me rant ;))

The SPAR is community service hours that you have to do every semester. You can find places to volunteer in the SPAR office or find something on your own. Last semester I helped out with Medical Citys Flu clinic for employees and visited Hospice patents.

I went to the off campus bookstore on Thursday and they did not have any nursing books or supply's.

It is ok not to have the supply kit at first same thing happened to our class just had to keep checking back with the bookstore.

(ranting is ok this will not be the last time LOL)

Good luck

Oh don't worry, this is not the first time the bookstore has made a mistake. For our class they only ordered 20 kits, the instructors told them, you need 40, we have 40 students, so they go and order 10 more. Um, still not enough! Not to worry, the instructors will understand if you don't have it the first day, as they are used to this sort of thing. However, the off campus bookstore does carry the kits too, so definately try.

We didn't do the volunteer thing in our 1st semester, but I think that's because it was a short summer semester, however you are not limited to the things on the SPAR list. You can volunteer anywhere, just as long as you have proof.

Day 1 is done! Yay :) I survived the 1st day...of course it was very uneventful and probably the most boring day I'll have, but hey it's one step closer to graduation.

Thanks for the info on SPAR; it actually sounds like it will be interesting.

So today in class we had a ton of schedule changes...is this something that we should get used to? It's like they cancel class on one day and add it on another day that we were to have no class (so I told work that I could be there). Just wondering if I should get used to it or if this isn't normal. Luckily work is super laid back and able to adjust.

How was everyone else's first day back?

we go back tomorrow and i can't wait.

you probably won't have a lot of schedule changes, we didn't really have that many. we never have really had class cancelled but we have had a few seminar type dates that we only had a few days notice on. as far as the feeling that things are disorganized...well, that is with any program. i have heard a lot worse about other programs, we are pretty lucky, just be ready to be flexible and hopefully your job will support you thru it.

and like the other girls said, don't worry about your kit just yet. they have supplies in the lab that will be available until you get your kit. they have you give them most of it in the beginning anyway.

don't forget to try to get more students from your class posting on here so we can all chit chat, and lend the little bit of wisdom that we have.

so what are your class dates now?

see ya on campus,

toni

I have a question for the third semester students. Do you guys wear scrubs to your skills labs or lecture? Because I keep seeing people walking around campus with scrubs on and I know that none of us first semester students do. Are those nursing students or one of the other health programs?

I am just wondering because they look so comfortable! I am just curious.

no, we do not wear our scrubs to school for any classes. you have probably been seeing some of the ems students or just students that work out in the field already and are coming from/going to work.

but your right...the scrubs are very comfy!

you still haven't replied to my question of: what's your lecture/skills lab schedule? a bunch of us would like to drop by and say "hi".

have a great day.

Hey everyone! I hope that you guys are having a not too crazy time adjusting to the new schedule! Just fyi I am taking my NCLEX on Feb the 5th so everyone please say a little prayer for me!

Josh

I'll send out prayers and passing vibes your way that day. Have you started your internship yet? You were going to Our Childrens' House at Baylor, right?

Ya, I started on the 7th. I absolutely loooooove it! It is like they looked inside my head and designed a perfect place for me to work! Thanks for the encouragement. So far everyone in our class that has taken it has passed. From what I hear, HESI is way harder than boards. We shall see..... ;)
