    IV catheter reset

The ones we practiced with were supposedly unretractable, but if you took a unfolded paper clip and put it into the little pinhole at the bottom you can return it to normal. It took practice to get it just right.

Once you get into a rhythm it will calm down. 1st semester is always hard because you are new to the whole nursing school thing. Soon you will learn to organize you time, and will get a feel for what to focus on, and what is not as essential. Like was already said, the articles and videos, at first I would watch and read them all, but after a few weeks I realized I could get by fine without them. Of course if you need the extra help they are great to have, you just need to get a feel for your learning style. Hang in there! It will be over before you know it, trust me!!! :icon_hug: I got a job at UT southwestern on a Telemetry floor. I am looking forward to it. I really enjoyed the 2 semesters I had on telemetry, and it is a good stepping stone should I someday wish to try ICU.

Probablly! Today was the first day the ATT would let us take it, and this was the only day open for the rest of the month. I couldn't go the the place by my house as it was booked, had to drive to hurst. Couldn't take it at the beginning of Sept d/t everything going on :) and my job wouldn't let me take it the last 2 weeks of Sept as it is the beginning of the internship. I couldn't stand waitng til Oct! So will you be working?

I Just took my NCLEX!! Aaahhh!!!

It's only been a couple of hours and already the wait is killing me! How am I supposed to wait 2 days?!?! Boy that nclex was a doosie! AT LEAST 50-60% of my 75 questions were SATA. At least! Maybe more. Tons of infection control, lots of prioritizing and med questions. Only 1 super easy calculation that didn't really requiring any calculating. I hope I pass, those SATA's are hard and I had lots, so that's a good sign, right?!? (or a bad sign!) :uhoh21: I'm just glad it's over, I don't want to do it again!!!

So, hows everyone doing? Have classes started for you guys? I just took my NCLEX a couple of hours ago. The next 2 days are sure to be agonizing, I hope the results come in sooner, (now!). That nclex sure is a tough one!

Thanks Josh, we are all real nervous about it. Tommorrow!!! They did not have the books pack available for us like they have had for the next 2 classes. I know it's alot upfront, but it sounds nice, because with us everything was so disorganized, alot of times the bookstore would never get the books we needed until weeks or months into the class, and we would have to get them elsewhere. The supply pack for skills lab was like 70 or so I think in 1st semester (not sure, it's been a while) and 100 something for 2nd semester.

:anpom:Hey everybody, 2 weeks left for us 4th semester students! I can't believe it, we're almost there! :yeah::nuke: How are you 2nd semester students doing?

    My hands shake!

My hands always shake, not just when I'm nervous. It hasn't been too much of a problem. I have been able to start IVs and everything fine, once I got the hang of it. It is a bit annoying when patients notice and ask why I'm shaking, but I just explain and they are fine.

The OB, peds, and psych classes are only 4-5 weeks each, so it shouldn't overlap for you, and it won't be bad at all. We are taking OB and peds now in 4th semester and we took psych in 2nd. Actually we finish OB this week and peds start next week, so I don't know how hard peds is. Psych wasn't too hard, just brush up on theraputic communication. OB is challenging in that it is different from anything else we've had, but it's not too bad. You'll be fine. Good luck, you're almost half way there!!!

Yeah, I never had Mrs Routh for clinicals, but for End of Life and Fundamentals she was great, and I love her, but she was hard on her groups for our class too, and some people would get upset. She asks alot of questions because she wants you to know your stuff, and I think that people in her group probablly learned more because you had to be on your toes. If you didn't know your stuff though than I guess she would get disappointed, and I don't know how I would do, because I am sensitive too. Mrs McLleland was great in clincals first semester. She would get in there and help with patient care, bed baths and hanging IVs, instead of just watching. She was just really laid back and that made us comfortable, especially for 1st semester when you are nervous anyway. But really, all of our staff are great. I haven't met any "bad" instructors and Brookhaven!

I know, I can't believe it's almost over, time flies fast! :) Wow, that sounds like it will be intense for lecture in half a summer semester, as that is alot of material, but you will do fine. That's how our 1st semester was.

I had Dr. Meyer as my instructor this semester for our preceptorship, so I can't tell you much about how he would be at the hospital, because I don't know. The preceptorship is totally different than a normal clinical rotation, in that you are assigned to your preceptor, and they monitor you. The instructors stop by every now and then to see how you're doing. I saw Dr. Meyer a total of 3 times (out of 15) and for only like 5 mins at a time. But at those times he was cool. :) I did get higher grades on my care plans with Mrs. McLleland, than Meyer, either he is a tougher grader, or I did a poorer job. Either way it wasn't bad. :nuke: So are ya'll doing psych next semester, or a you doing it in the Fall sense the summer is shorter?
