Brookhaven College Spring 2017

Published

I am hoping to be part of the Brookhaven College Spring 2017 Nursing Class and I want to start a new thread where other potential students can communicate with one another. I am almost done with my pre-requisites. Currently I am working on getting Chemistry and Ethics out of the way. I plan on taking nursing pathophysiology this summer if it is offered.

Any one have any suggestions on how to prepare for the HESI A2? I am also interested in any advice that can help me with my dosage class. I am very nervous about the dosage course since the test must be passed with a 90%. Good luck everyone!

Thats awesome! I think your long wait will soon come to an end as I believe you have a great chance of getting in this spring!

You as well, to be honest. We all seem to be within a similar point range, though I remain optimistic that we're on the higher end of the scale, lol :) I think the minimum point requirement for an interview will probably be around what you guesstimated, if not a bit more. Or maybe not! Speculation is going to drive us all bonkers!

Haha-we will surely drive ourselves insane here in the next few weeks leading to the interviews!

Hello everyone! I am at the BHC campus right now studying fro the dosage exam coming up this Saturday. I am so nervous about it! Any advice?

Hi Kim! what I focused on was being able to solve the questions on the two test samples as they mirrored the actual test. Not sure if you were there on any of the previous classes where professor mentioned that questioned that were related to calculating the BSA would not be in the exam, only those where the BSA is already given will be asked.

Good luck!

I've completed all prereq's, the dosage calculations test, and will be taking the critical thinking exam they require and the HESI within the next two weeks. I am a bit nervous but I have faith I will get accepted. I sure hope I do. Does anyone know the minimum score needed on HESI to apply? And whether or not its per subject, or accumulative? Any and all information would be appreciated! Thanks. (:

BHC is accumulative and you get points for everything over 75%. So you are probably in the same boat as me and shooting for 90+. Ex: 90-75 would get you 15 pts additional etc.

Good luck!

Kim, Go in with a positive mind! I was a nervous wreck but kept telling myself I could do it. Math has always been my strong subject, so I wasn't worried that I wouldn't pass. But more so about getting the "above 90" grade that was needed. I will not lie, I did not study as much as I should have, but mainly because I love math. I am very comfortable taking math tests compared to something like Anatomy. I passed the DC test with a 91! I wish I could have done better, but at least it was 90 or above. Just relax hun! you'll do great. He gives you a sheet with the conversions which I feel was the biggest push I needed at the last minute to get through. And when I took it 2 Saturday's ago, the first hour he answered questions anybody had then from 11-3 we tested. For some, they ran through it. I actually took my sweet time and used all 4 hours. Good luck to you and I hope to see you in the program next year!

Hi Didi! The trend has been to shoot for about 90 points on the HESI. This is said both anecdotally and as recommended by the Nursing advisors. I've seen some applicants accepted with 88, 89 points, but I think that was dependent on how well they scored on their support courses too.

Just as you did for your DC exam, it helps immensely to simply breathe, relax, and take all the time available to you to consider each question. You conveyed that you don't test well with Anatomy - rest assured the HESI material generally contains questions that are inside the realm of AP1 material.

Good luck!!

Thank you so much, drangel254!

I definitely am shooting for high scores. My only concern is the anatomy section. Science has just never been my strong spot but needless to say, I've always pushed through! Do you know if it affects being able to apply if one section out of all is below 70%-75%? For instance, say I make 90 or above on everything but my anatomy portion ends up being 65; the overall accumulative score is still above 75%, would I then be able to still apply even though the anatomy was below 70% individually?

I think it depends on the school. Some say every section has to be above 75% some say 75% total. BHC didn't really specify on their website. So I would say it is best to be on the safe side to shoot above 75% on everything just to allow you to apply to other colleges as well.

Agreed. I emailed the dean earlier this morning and he responded and stated it was a cumulative score of 75%. Which regardless I'm still shooting for a 90 cumulative, I just would hate for the anatomy to hold me back. However, I will just study, study, and study some more haha! Good luck to you, though! I hope we are able to say we will be starting Spring of 2017 soon!

Didi, you'll still be able to apply.
