Brookhaven College Spring 2017

Published

I am hoping to be part of the Brookhaven College Spring 2017 Nursing Class and I want to start a new thread where other potential students can communicate with one another. I am almost done with my pre-requisites. Currently I am working on getting Chemistry and Ethics out of the way. I plan on taking nursing pathophysiology this summer if it is offered.

Any one have any suggestions on how to prepare for the HESI A2? I am also interested in any advice that can help me with my dosage class. I am very nervous about the dosage course since the test must be passed with a 90%. Good luck everyone!

Hi Mavwagg!

I'm also preparing my self for the Spring 2017 BH program. I'm currently taking Patho and AP II. I plan on taking my last two supporting classes, Micro and Pharma, during the summer along with the dosage calculations course.

I was reading the threads on the Spring 2016 board and many of the students passed the DC test with a 95 and many commented that it was identical to the review with the exception of the BMI and weight calculations.

I took my Hesi last month and scored an 86, I was hoping for an 89 so that I didn't have to take Micro during the summer. I might keep my score, unless I don't get A's on my classes to give me maximum points, in which case I'll retake it in September in hopes for a 90+.

Have you taken AP II? and or Patho? I think those two classes will increase your chances in scoring high on the HESI as many of the AP questions where taken from AP II. I got an 92 in the math, for the most part I studied the HESI A2 book... I also used two Apps: Cram and HESI A2.

GOOD LUCK and hope to see activity increase in this thread as we get closer to September :-)

So, the math was basically fractions, decimals, conversions and ratio and proportions correct?

Yes that is correct :)

I am going to be applying for the spring of 2017.

I have all of my prerequisites done. I still need to take my HESI ( I have completed all science BSN prereqs so I feel i have a pretty good shot at scoring well on the science portion of that test)

I am just confused on when the actual application deadline is due. Is it September 15? or 15-30th? Because online it says Sep 15-30 by 3pm.

I just want to give myself enough time to be able to complete all of the transfer requirements and the dosage class before applying!

It's between those dates.

I'm so glad I came across this. I will also be applying for Spring 2017.

I completed all my pre-requisites and currently enrolled in Pharmacology and the Dosage Calculations (which I'm not too worried about).

Does anyone know how often the HESI Exam is administered or is it just on individual basis when you sign up with the Testing Center? I've been wondering about that particular aspect, especially seeing that they've only allowed a 2 week window to take the HESI.

how many points are you all applying with? I haven't taken Pharmacology, Pathophysiology or Ethics. I only hard enough money for one class during the summer so I am taking Developmental Psychology. I am worried about my chances of getting in since I don't have all the support classes completed ,I think the website said minimum points required are 27 and I think if I get a decent HESI score I might apply with 28.75 scores :

so far just my gpa with support classes I have 9 points, I'm considering retaking one of the support classes in order to receive more points but I can't decide if it's worth the efforts.

Also, I'm noticing the critical thinking exam is up to 15 points. Does anyone know when and where this exam should be taken? I haven't been able to find adequate information on that. All it says is it is offered during feb and sept.

The exams will be available at the testing center at Brookhaven in September. I would say call early August to see when they will be accepting sign ups to ensure a spot. I called a few days ago and they were not sure if they were going to do the critical thinking exam within the HESI or as a separate test.

Yes, they changed it from 19 to 27 since they added the critical thinking exam that's worth up to 15 points. Are you taking that into consideration as well? Have you also taken the dosage calculations exam? Enroll today if you haven't as the fist class is next Saturday.

In the past >23 points would grant you an interview, this was before the point increase. My guess is that it would be higher this time.... Possibly 31 (that's just me adding 4pts to the minimum as that's been the trend in the past)

Do you happen to know if that first class (for Dosage Calculations) is mandatory? I go that clarification from the instructor in regards to each class and the tests...which I think is because I had emailed him. I will honestly say that I'm afraid to ask if that first class is mandatory or not. I know it makes it sounds like I just don't want to go, but it would just save me so much trouble if it wasn't a mandatory class.
