Brookhaven ADN Spring 2020

Published

Hello everybody! I will FINALLY be applying for Brookhaven for the Spring 2020 entrance. I have watched previous forums to see what to expect and I'm excited but nervous. Are there any students here enrolled in the concurrent enrollment through Brookhaven and Texas Tech? I hope to hear more from you guys as we go through this process!

Being a PCT does have its advantages but it doesn't necessarily bar you from getting a job if you don't have that experience. Even with me being a PCT, I'm going to be considered as a new RN. With that said, you do gain some experience from being around nurses. Some nurses will even show you things you normally wouldn't learn until you are well into a nursing program.

OAN: Don't feel bad about venting. I think a whole lot of us will be as it gets closer for time for us to apply. Does anybody know where I can get a physical but not through the doctor's office?

I think it all depends on where you work as well. I currently work as a PCT in a Behavioral health facility and my nurse manager said I can work as an RN in the facility once I obtain my license. But not sure I want to do psych just yet. Overall its great experience.

How long did it take you to become a PCT, and where did you go to school for it?...

Hesi- 92 overall

Will be taking dosage calculations exam this summer.

Just finished patho and pharm. Taking Micro and Philosophy this summer. Estimating to have around 30-31 points (as long as I can keep my grades up this summer). I seen that Mountain Views program was super competitive for Fall 2019 and the bare minimum is just not cutting it anymore. Maybe it will be different for Spring programs. Good luck to everyone!

Hello! I remember you @Nicci808 from the other forums! ? Welcome back. So here are my stats (tentative):

HESI-92 overall

Gotta take dosage calculations this summer.

Finished pharm, in the process of finishing my chemistry. Retaking AP1 summer 1 term and taking the TT courses as well. So let's say I have everything right now-I'm looking at around 29-32 points (roughly).

Mountain View may not be as competitive this time since it's spring and not fall coming up but yes nevertheless you don't want to settle for the bare minimum. I agree with that.

I know this one was directed to @Nicci808 but if its okay-I wanted to just give my tidbit lol. I went to MA school and I'm certified as a MA and a Phlebotomist. However, I wanted to work in the hospital (not the clinic). I knew someone who worked at the hospital plus I had my MA and Phlebotomy certificates so between work of mouth and my certificates, they took that and I was hired. At the time, there weren't many PCT programs out. Now there's an abundance of them ? I'm just glad those opportunities are available now that weren't available back then.

This is true. It's harder to work on a floor when you don't like that floor or like the job period. I know this feeling all too well. But now I work on postpartum so I absolutely love my job, even on the stressful days because I know how it was to work the floors I used to work on and I'm grateful to be where I am now. That's how my facility is set up too. That once you finish, even if you have your ADN, as long as you go back for your BSN within a specified amount of time, then you can still work on the floor.

I didn't go to school or get a cert for it. I just applied and got the job. There are some places that do not require experience or certs to be a PCT and they train you on everything.

Hey Shantil! I remember you as well and am glad you started this forum. Mountain View was the only one I applied to for Fall but I only had the bare minimum requirements since I was still knocking out prerequisites and didn't even get an interview. Thats why Im knocking out everything before the next deadlines to give myself a more competitive position.

What TT courses are you taking? Is it something you register through DCCCD?

Thanks so much

quick question , do you think it's possible for me to get my Hep B Immunization 3 shot series done before the application deadline. I will be geting the first shot tommrrow. anybody have experince on this?

Hey @queeno I have experience with this since I take my last shot in a couple weeks. The Hep B series is a lengthy process. The first two shots to be taken within a month of each other but the last shot is 3-4 months out after the first shot.

I believe Hep A series is the longest with 6 months between each dose.

Through the partnership with Texas Tech El Paso, they have two courses you can take. I'm trying to take both of them but that costs about $2500 big ones out of pocket so I'm working on it. It's on Brookhaven's website but if you inbox me your email, I can send you more information on it. @queeno as well.
