Brookhaven ADN Spring 2020

Published

Hello everybody! I will FINALLY be applying for Brookhaven for the Spring 2020 entrance. I have watched previous forums to see what to expect and I'm excited but nervous. Are there any students here enrolled in the concurrent enrollment through Brookhaven and Texas Tech? I hope to hear more from you guys as we go through this process!

You only need to have the four prereqs (BIOL 2401, CHEM 1405, ENGL 1301 and PSYC 2314) completed with a 3.0 to apply. However any support courses you have completed can help boost your score.

Do you mind providing an outline of possible points for applying? I have the worksheet but don’t quite get the total. Additionally I read there are points for interview and writing sample.

thanks

So I’ll go by the worksheet they provide.

Anybody with at least 20 points or higher, they will look at the application. Starting with the HESI scores-max is 25 pts

Dosage calculations class- needs to be completed with 90 or higher on the final exam for the class. No pts awarded here.

Four prerequisites: max pts of course 4.0 in this area.

Secondary support courses: max 17 pts.

Medical experience: 2 pts.

If you factored in the highest points for the interview and writing sample: max 10 points (or negative 10 if its that bad ?).

Total: 58 points. Now just tally everything according to what you have so far. I wouldn’t even count the interview score until after I got an email for it. So let’s say 48 points since we deduct the 10 pts. They added the Texas Tech classes in after many of us had already applied for the Texas Tech dual enrollment program so unless you’re already in the class now, this won’t really go into effect until Fall 2020 entrance to allow everybody to have a chance at those points. You want to aim at about 25 points or higher now since the TT classes were added which made the max number of points a little higher. I hope this helps!!! ?

Ah thank you this clears think up, I’ve got a non-nursing degree(biology) so my pockets at crying?, my aim is to take the least amount of support courses but still maintain a competitive amount of points for applying. If you don’t mind me asking, have you been accepted into any of the dcccd programs? If so, how is it this far?

I’m glad I was able to help! No not in just yet. I’ll be applying to North Lake, Mountain View and Brookhaven. So hopefully this year i’ll be getting into one for sure. The past forums for these programs are great as they can let you see what past points got acceptance/ rejection notice, how the first semester schedule looks, etc.

I just signed up for the class today so I haven't gone yet probably next week. I’ve heard its not that bad just simple stuff.

The test is not hard. It consist of 100 questions. You can use your own phone calculator. And just study the formulas and study the review and you should be okay. I used the dosage calculation section in my pharmacology class and the formula chart the dean provided and I made a 96. Scores are good for 2 years.

I thought it was usually the reverse. I see BHC accepts 40 in the Spring (60 in Fall) and MVC I'm not sure how many they accept but I'm thinking less than Spring 2019. Well as it stands I'm sitting around 29-30 points at BHC and 17 at MVC (Given I retake AP1 and algebra) so that's where I sit so far.

How many points did you have for Fall 2019?

For Brookhaven I only had 20. Barely made it. My reading score on the Hesi held me back.

Stats for Fall-2019

96-DC exam

3.429-GPA

9pts-Hesi

8-support pts.

20 pts

I think the max is 11 because at the bottom where it states total. You can only get max 11 points. But you might want to ask to be sure.

No I don't have the book. I used the software for the pharmacology class because it showed videos on how to do the dosage problems but I think I still have my software and if I can pull it up then I can email it to you.

That would be a good question for me to ask tomorrow so we can have clarification on that. Do we get points for the TT classes or just consideration for having it complete? Or is the 11 pts an error? Ill email them tomorrow. Thanks for pointing that out
