Hi. I am new here. I don't know exactly where to go. I am a registered nurse here in the Philippines and I am interested in studying in Australia for a bridging course that will help me become a registered nurse there. I need some help on looking for a good school that offers a bridging course.
My aunt told me that a friend of her friend just went to AU to take up a test and in 6 months she's there for a bridging program. and I have this friend who has a friend who became a registered nurse in AU in 6 months time too. This agency is offering me to study for a certificate III aged care with occupational English test for 46 weeks in Einstein College but it costs too much. So now, I am trying to look for a school wherein I can apply by myself and hopefully get in. I am hoping I could leave for AU this June 2011. I am a bit lost on what to do. Can you help me, please? Any suggestions? ? Please help me. Thank you very much.
(Sydney area would be better since my parents are more familiar and in favor of that place... though other cities/areas will be great too)
I have 1 year experience in MedSurg several years back and less than 2 years in Theatre under my belt. I had the same woes while I was on my placement nevertheless I kept on applying in all the jobs I found on most job sites. I did not confine myself applying only in my field but since I was desperate to get a job, I had no choice.
Call backs were as early as a day after sending my CV, this was from nursing agencies. Most of them had to decline when they found out I need to get sponsored. The others I had to decline myself as I knew I would get a better job that would be suitable for me.Then I had to leave the country weeks after I got registered.
Gazillion unsuccessful applications later, I got invitations for panel interviews in 2 public hospitals and 1 private hospital. Since I was out of the country, the panel interviews had to be done on the phone. With God's mercy, I was offered with 2 Theatre RN positions and 1 Anaesthesia.
Now, if you based everything on hearsay and don't take any chances at all, where would it take you?
Thank you jems . Do you think ED nurses are in demand allover aust?
i dont think i am in the position to tell anyone about any chances of being sponsored. it's all depends on how you strive hunting for jobs and of course if it is God's desire for you. but for now, you havent even started your BP yet, so focus on that first.
Forum poster, here in this thread, did report significant amount of people who did not pass in their course, Nurses from the Phillipines and Indian their advice was, did not matter if you have experience or not, it seemed to be if you could quickly adapt and remember to the new culture and Australian nursing you passed, this was from a proper university standard institution though, not a private tafe. I will keep searching for their post, was a few months ago.
Jems, did you go to ETEA?

Im already quite familliar with the course at unisa since a collegue of mine went through the course and im keeping in touch with her often. Im a bit worried though learning that 457 visas got new rules like requiring labor market testing. Ive also heard that there are hundreds of citizens and PRs who are new grads are just floating around jobless. What im trying to figure out is if ive got even the slightest chance of getting sponsored considering ive got 3years in ED. Also heard oz employers prefer nurses from the uk and ireland.
