Hi. I am new here. I don't know exactly where to go. I am a registered nurse here in the Philippines and I am interested in studying in Australia for a bridging course that will help me become a registered nurse there. I need some help on looking for a good school that offers a bridging course.
My aunt told me that a friend of her friend just went to AU to take up a test and in 6 months she's there for a bridging program. and I have this friend who has a friend who became a registered nurse in AU in 6 months time too. This agency is offering me to study for a certificate III aged care with occupational English test for 46 weeks in Einstein College but it costs too much. So now, I am trying to look for a school wherein I can apply by myself and hopefully get in. I am hoping I could leave for AU this June 2011. I am a bit lost on what to do. Can you help me, please? Any suggestions? ? Please help me. Thank you very much.
(Sydney area would be better since my parents are more familiar and in favor of that place... though other cities/areas will be great too)
Hi cyndi0116 .. I'm also for September intake at ACN..and just received my visa this morning. Can I get your email address mine is [email protected]
Hi cyndi0116 I already replied to your email :)
It's okay. :) I get the feeling too. :) Anyways I don't know but I never heard of a TB vaccine before. The TB test is the PPD/mantoux test. You can avail that to any pediatrician (yup, according to the doctor I had my immunizations with, Pediatricians are the ones who do the test nowadays). So I don't think you would be needing a BCG vaccine for it. But please ask your doctor about it first to be sure. Where are you from by the way? E-learning is okay. Yup the workbooks are fine. :) Basic concepts, nursing in australia, english learning, etc.. just find time to accomplish those. :)
Hi evan i would like to ask did you finish all the workbooks and quizzes? how about the case study? thanks
Hi evan10..is their AUD3000 accommodation worth it. What are the things included in their accommodation?will they choose your roommate?will they send you to an accommodation with the same nationality?Still weighing things if i will avail their accommodation, its too pricy! hows your BP?still waiting for my visa grant!
Sorry for the delayed reply. Yes I availed of their accommodation and what you pay for is basically the convenience of everything. The hostel here in Melbourne is only 1 cross away from the school and I have a lot of classmates who did not avail the accommodation. To give you a perspective, I will lay out the specifics because it's still up to you if you wish to get the accommodation or not. Some of my classmates have to travel by bus going to school. Others have accommodation within walking distance from the school. One pays 115 AUD per week while some 150 AUD per week. So just to give you a better picture, it is best to look for a place near IHNA if you have the time to search for one however you also need to consider the area and the amenities that place is going to offer just in case you do not wish to avail the accommodation. Transportation here is difficult if ever your place needs travel time because the buses here have schedules and once you're late, you have to wait for the next time. Some accommodations here has no wifi so that you should consider too because your laptop and internet access is a necessity for most part. If you wish to avail of the accommodation here offered in IHNA, be prepared. It's a dorm-like setting here where you have a common kitchen. Filipinos are paired with filipinos so if you have a companion whose going to be your classmate the better so you can share 1 room. However, if you don't know anyone, the management would be kind enough to pair you with a filipino as well. The accommodation problem comes when the placements are announced. Because you never know where you will be assigned and no one can request for a placement of their choice. So in my case I was assigned at New South Wales. That's a plane ride from here to New Castle in which the 3000 AUD you paid for is covered. That's the accommodation and the travel costs already. So for those who did not avail of the accommodation, they are trying to find places right now to live for their clinical placement. Others are already contemplating to get the accommodation offered by IHNA for the clinical. So for me, if you can and are willing, try to find a place nearby for the theoretical part then decide whether you will avail of the IHNA accommodation for the clinicals just in case you can't find one immediately. I only paid for convenience, that's all I can say but if I got time or best, if I have someone who can help me find an accommodation here before, I would take that chance. Hope it enlightens you :) Btw, BP is going okay so far but it feels like school all over again literally with lots of assignments, group works and etc. :) Over all, it's still fun. :) Good luck to your Visa grant. :)
Hi evan i would like to ask did you finish all the workbooks and quizzes? how about the case study? thanks
Hi Cynthia,
It's best to finish it so you won't have any problems. They will be reminding and giving a deadline on the orientation to those who did not finished their elearning so yeah they know who is not yet done on the elearning. :)
Btw, are you a male or female? I'm a female. After the visa processing, I'm worried about finding an accommodation near IHNA. Have you found a place to stay?
Hey! yes email me here [email protected] so we can communicate directly. I also have another friend for the October batch, she received her Visa grant last Saturday. I on the other hand am scheduled for medicals this Tuesday. Goodluck to us! email me ok? :) :)
good evening everyone, i just came across with this on http://www.ofwguide.com saying that there will be a bridging program here in the philippines (this month) for those who want to work as a nurse in australia. there are already 100 nurses and 30 nurse educators who will participate in it. the article says that the bridging program was the result of a partnership between DOLE-PRC and the Monash University. Here is the link:
http://www.ofwguide.com/article_item-2034/DOLE-Announces-Start-of-Bridging-Program-of-PHL---Australia-for-Nurses.html#ixzz2cOk48aW8
Does anyone of you knows how to apply to the said bridging program? Is this real? If it is, when and where is the start? Is anybody here part of the said bridging program? Do you think i can qualify for the bridging program? i already tried to search the net but i cant find any application process for it.
By the way, Im 22 years old, a registered nurse in the philippines, have 2 years of experience as a staff er nurse at a 100 bed capacity hospital and a master of arts in nursing student. im about to graduate this march. I haven't taken IELTS yet.
Thank you so much! I hope to hear from somebody soon. God bless everyone!
No, it is a prank. Every course for any registration as a nurse must go through ANMAC and AHPRA and be administered in country by Australian staff, no education is done overseas.
There is no need to especially do this and AusAid only work to improve the country they are working in, not improve education to send people away! and there is no need for nursing numbers in Australia to be increased by an organisation to supply 100 nurses, to an already difficult to get jobs profession.
If Australia was to help out just 100 out of the thousands of unemployed nurses it would be to pay for a few bridging courses held in Australia.
To say the Australian Nursing degree is in align with the BSN from the Phillipines is just incredible, when it is more like the UK the Phil. BSN is supposed to be based on the US degree, no midwifery, no paeds and spelling of the UK not US and not task and case orientated its is not medical bound not educated into facts figures priorities to remember in one big exam. It is more how to recognise problems and how to solve and get answers quickly.
If Australia wants more nurses they would not particularly educate nurses in the Phillipines, as their main source of a nursing supply, it would be cheaper and quicker, as they usually go to the UK.
Neither AusAid, Monash Uni, have anything about this on their websites, it would be considered then a prank of some sort to guide unemployed nurses from the Phillipines to some other money making scam.
