I am saddened by this. I have been a member for many years and AN has helped me through many decisions and career questions. I teach nursing and always tell my students about AN.

My prayers are with everyone- Brian's family and the AN family. Thank you for all you do. It is much appreciated. I am glad you will continue AN. Take your time and grieve. We will be with you every step of the way!

I am in shock just as all of you are. I can't believe it. What a horrible thing to happen to someone who revolutionized contemporary nursing. This site has facilitated nurse-to-nurse communication between nurses all around the world and is an indispensable part of any nursing student and seasoned nurse alike. Allnurses.com will continue to be great as always but this horrible event has left us with much sorrow. Thank you Brian for what you created. May his extended family and friends find peace someday.

Grief is a heavy, sunken rock that is leaden within your gut - renders it hard to breathe, to function. I fervently wish that everyone who feels a personal connection/friendship with Brian and/or his family is able to piece together peace.

I am so very grateful for this edifying community, I have truly learned so much lurking here. Creating an enduring place where people are able to learn, connect with one another, and evolve is an amazing, unique legacy; as a stranger, it's surreal to realize that someone who I never spoke to, someone I never knew on a personal level... will have impacted my career and education.

I hope those who are mourning Brian and his family are able to be surrounded with love during this time... the best enemy of grief is love and a good bottle of whiskey.

I can't believe this. What terrible news. :( I have been a member of AN for about a year, and in these past few months I have started reading this site everyday. I love it so much. Brian Short has created such an amazing community that has helped so many people, and will continue to for a long time. Thank you Brian for all that you have done for this website and its members. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and everyone who has ever interacted with him or his family. Rest in peace, Short family.

I just want to say that I was not a nurse when I came here and signed up in 2007. I never in my life thought I would or could become one. It was absolutely because of this place and the people here that I went from CNA to lvn to rn. I wish brian knew how much he affected us.

OMG I am so deeply grieved. I remember when Brian started this group. I don't think anyone saw the potential outreach and strength of this site except Brian. He always believed in all of us as nurses to blossom and grow this site. Brian reached out and touched so many lives in thousands of ways that he could not even imagine!

When I first came to Allnurses I had lurked for a long time. I was one of the ones who posted sometimes on the ancient AOL message board as ~Scarlette Wings~. A friend named annie pointed me toward this site. annie had been a flight nurse who served in Vietnam. It was the support of a core group of nurses on the message boards that helped me get the courage to get out of the nightmare of an abusive relationship and believe in myself. If it had not been for this site and the nurses, some of whom I have since met and become friends, I know I would not be alive.

At Allnurses I found a place that was a breath of fresh air. Brian was so enthusiastic and welcoming. I cannot count how many times he would answer questions personally and offer support. He was filled with a vision for a place where all nurses and all levels of healthcare worker could discuss topics that mattered to us. We could vent when we had horrible days, learn short cuts and techniques, be encouraged when we wanted to give up, and even agree to disagree in a professional way.

My prayers are with all the family and for all of us here at AllNurses to keep his vision alive; a place where all nurses and healthcare workers can come and share and learn.

rest in peace my friend
