I know some of you may think "hey what's her problem" sorry, but anyway I have large breasts DDD cup and get alot of spasms in my neck and upper back. I have been evaluated for a breast reduction and definately qualify. I really want to have it done. I'm so tired of always having to buy bigger sizes on the top and yada yada, anyone out there have a breast reduction and any comments on whether to or not to? Thanks!
This site shows some great before and after pictures. I have know idea who the MD is, but I just thought the pics on this site were very realistic.
Just thought of something I saw once..this obese middleaged woman was at a science center where I had my kids visiting one time. She wore kind of a thin Tshirt. When she had her back to us, I kept thinking I saw nipples on her back! but figured I was just seeing things..we weren't that close to her. anyway, I got a little closer and I was indeed seeing her nipples on her BACK...you could see she had folded her breasts over in her bra and stuffed the leftovers under her arms and they pooched around toward her shoulder blades. Unbelievable.
i thought i had heard of everything but that takes the cake
I remember a pt. that i frequently was assigned to ttake care of, that require 2 people to turn her in the bed. One to pull on the pad, the other to make sure both breast scame with her. They were so heavy, she could lay on her side, and they were able to be underneath of her arm and hanging down her back.
I wondered how she lived all of her life like that?

I'm not trying to be morbidly curious, but I never hear much about that.
BTW..I'm a DDD, and never thought mine seemed that big, but maybe that's why my shoulders are often sore. Wonder if that can cause lower back pain as well.
Nipple sensation is absolutely no problem for me. The doc explained that along with our skin, nerves stretch as well. He suggested that there might be hypersensitivity following surgery. Boy howdy, he was right! Any loss of sensation is not related to the nipples & should resolve within a few months.
a good friend will celebrate the first anniversary of her reduction next month- she says it was the best thing for her. Her back and neck pains are gone- she's so much healthier. And she's expecting her first child in january!! Her doc said she may actually have better success at breastfeeding now than before due to her size previously. Good Luck to all those trying to make the decision.
I am considering a reduction op, and would like to know about recovery times. I have 3 weeks hols and 2 weeks in uni this summer.... so thats 5 weeks in total where i wont be at work on placement in a hospital. When i do go back on placement it would be in the post op recovery area. Would this be enough time?
Im a student operating department practitioner in the UK. I am thinking of getting a loan out to pay for the op as we dont have insurance here to cover the op and its near impossible to get the op on the NHS.
Any advice appreciated.

If you could schedule the surgery at the beginning of those five weeks off, that would be a good idea. People all seem to recovery differently. Some have lots of pain and soreness, some have wound comlications...and many have no problems at all.
For me, I was numb for six months or so and the only pain I had ended on day #3 or 4 when the Jackson-Pratts were pulled. I was careful not to do too much lifting and stuff for the first month or two. Wearing a tight sports bra helps a lot. You could always tell your instructor that you had surgery, and for the first couple of weeks just say that you'll need an extra hand moving patients if you don't feel ready for it.
I think I would love to have a breast reduction surgery after I'm done with having babies because I'd want to breast-feed but that is a long time in the future for me. it never quite occurrred to me that my neck pain and back pain could be related to my breasts. I got into a car accident a few years ago and I've always chalked up my pain to that. You ladies are fabulous! Thanks for bringing this up and talking about it.

Well about the lower back pain I do beleive that it does play a large factor I can not say that My Breast are my main factor for my lower back when I had my last child my epidural did not go as planned and I was stuck 11 times in my lower spine. I feel that before that I did have some lower back pain but not as much as I do now. The scar tissue has a lot to do with it. However my pain in my upper back has been a killer the last three days and has progressed in to a migraine. I feel like I take so many meds for my pains that I hope after surgery I will be able to cut back on some of the meds.
