The hospital activites comittee handed out a pumpkin for each dept to decorate for Breast Cancer Awareness today, that'll be judged by a pt. at the end of the month. I'm working in IT with 2 men and was out of the office today, so this afternoon the pumpkin was on my desk.
First of all, although totally inappropriate, but seriously, who wouldn't have the thought of making it a boob cross their mind! lol.
I found one decorated like a pink M&M, pretty cute, any other ideas????

My husband always says that breast cancer is so popular because it gives people permission to talk about breasts.
Silliness aside I suppose someone has already thought to carve the ribbon and paint it pink. What about painting four steps of exam on the pumpkin? You could do them all the way around and label them "Lie Look Raise and Squeeze" :)

Will departments decorate kiwi fruit for testicular cancer awareness? What about colon cancer awareness?

Plenty of women (and men) get sick and die from other cancers. But you don't hear about those cancers. No different colored tchotchkes for those cancers; no media attention. We should show as much concern for all cancers, not just breast cancer.

%5 of breast cancer is in men.....ever hear about what they go through?
I'd like to see which actual research facilities the money goes to- how much of each buck given actually is used to pay for petri dishes, pipettes, microscopes, mice (sorry), etc.
I wonder how much goes to the pharmaceutical companies that are already swimming in money w/the top guys taking home 7 figure bonuses each year.
Sorry- just very cynical about "charities". It's great that someone's heart may be in the right place re: raising money- but what happens with the money. ???
My mom's memorial service left 2 places for donations to be made in her name (the checks went to my dad to sort out).....the church she belonged to, and the ACS.... the ACS couldn't even muster up a thank you. The church asked permission for what they wanted to do with it.
I'd like to see more accountability in written form with each donation. A simple flier wouldn't cost that much of their precious money- and they might get more if they seemed more transparent.
I won't donate to any religious organization with gold chairs and pink hair, either... just sayin'
and JMHO....not asking for anyone to agree
