so I went to brcc and finally got to talk to the dean of nursing!!! it was an exciting but depressing moment. I asked her to review my grades and give me her thoughts of the chances of me getting in. She smiled gave me back my transcript and congratulated me on getting all As in my pre-req. then she said this " Although you did exceptionally well on your prereqs im going to be honest, when you apply in January your not going to get in because you haven't taken any of your classes at brcc. I hate to have to tell you to retake all of your classes but if you truly want to get in the first go round, I would recommend you taking the classes again, you should have no problem with this because you have taken them successfully at slu with all As but I will have you know if you take the classes here and get lower than an A we will use that because we take the last grade" and I almost cried because God knows I did not want to take those classes over again. Especially ap. She pulled out the list from this year and actually showed me who got accepted and there were only 2 people out of the 50 that got accepted that didn't take all of their classes at brcc but they took one class there and got 100 on the entrance exam. So I asked for her advice. She said "If you really want to get in I can guarantee you that if you retake those 5 reqs at BRCC with a 3.8 and score high on the entrance exam, which is fairly easy, you will definitely get in. Its a numbers game, we give pts for g.p.a entrance score, and 2 points for every class taken at brcc" I shook her hand and she wish me luck! so I def changed my schedule and am retaking those As AGAIN! but it feels good because I know ill get As again in them and I can pretty much consider myself accepted right after i apply in jan! So to to all the pre-nursing students, given the information I was given from the dean, stay focused, make good grades and try to take all your pre-reqs at brcc!!!!
Good luck to you all!!

I would for SURE not retake classes just because one school wants your money. And I mean, really, isn't that what this is about? Taking your tuition, even though your classes transfer, so you can get in the program?
Thats one of the stupidest things I have ever heard. More power to you for wanting to go there, but theres no way in H-E-Double Hockey Sticks I would retake classes I made As in and waste my time and money.

Why on earth would you pay to retake classes you've already taken and aced? Aside from the money, you're wasting time you could be using to apply to another program that doesn't have such a bias against transfer students. I would walk away.

Why waste add'l time and money? Apply to other programs, duh........
my mom makes too much money for me to receive financial aid(shes a nurse) so whatever nursing school I go to I have to pay out of pocket and brccs is the cheapest its only like 2,000. I was going to apply to SUBR and our lady of the lake but they both require you to take classes at their college first before applying so I wouldnt be able to apply in Jan :/ plus olol tuition is ridic! and I'm already 20 I dont want to wait until im 24 to graduate Im rather just get it over with now.....
advice/help!!?
Trenia- my sister just applied to slu with a 3.85 and didnt get in so I dont know if I want to apply there.. I only have a 3.71 cumm and 3.8 in my degree gpa. Ive talked to many people at slu when I was there and they all had much higher gpas then me and didnt get in

My advice is to apply at both places before you decide anything at all! It's like you are wanting to win a lottery without buying the ticket. Apply first. If you get declined you can decide the next step.
I cant apply to both... Both colleges require you to be enrolled in 6 hrs before applying to their nursing school

Ok, this post confuses me. First of all, there is NO way your sister had a 3.85 and didn't get into SLU. Either she didn't have a 3.85 or she didn't have all of the requirements that she needed. I know for a FACT that the lowest GPA they accepted to start in the fall was a 3.43. If she didn't meet the requirements and as missing just ONE class, she will get denied. But chances are they are not going to tell you that unless you specifically ask.
There was one girl that told me she had a friend that had a 3.7 and didn't get in. Had the same discussion with her. Turns out, her friend was missing a lab and she had NO idea. They go STRICTLY by GPA and nothing else. Once it is confirmed that you have the required classes, your GPA is calculated and they pick the top 65 or whatever. That simple.
If you have a 3.8, you will get in, IF you have all of the requirements. A semester is around $2,500, so by the time you retake classes at BRCC, you will spend that and more it sounds like.
Just some advice from a 1st semester SLU nursing student. Good luck in whatever you decide.
