Brandman University ABSN Program

Published

Hi All,

I'm wondering if any one has heard of Brandman University. They have a new ABSN program in San Diego, CA that i'm looking into. My grades are not competitive but i want to get into my career soon.

Has anyone been to this school, and if so, how did you like it? Do you think I'll be able to land a good job as an RN if I were to apply and attend? I'm nervous, since it is a new program! Such as, what if they end up closing and the degree won't be valid ?

Thanks in advance.

Hey future nurses,

I know that a majority of the people in this thread are in the process of applying or waiting to hear back about admissions. I'm from San Diego and have a Bachelors degree and I am interested in applying to Brandman. I don't quite understand how their ABSN program works but I have taken a majority of the prereqs at National University besides intro to Chem, intro to Bio, and Human development(not including the LBSU prereqs but I read I can get it waived because of my Bachelors?). Could I still apply to the program? And take those prereqs through Brandman? Sorry for all the questions.

Also how many students do they accept into each cohort?

Good luck to everyone and I hope everyone stays safe.

Wait! There is a facebook thread for this blog post also???? Anyone have a link to the fb thread. I'm hardly ever on fb but I'd log in to read what's going on. ?

The speed in which Brandman portrays their program is not accurate. They will require about two semester of pre-reqs before clinicals. As far as price goes the cheapest would be City College's next CSU's. CSUSM enrolls cohorts every semester. I deeply regret not applying to other programs. I wanted to avoid the TEAS test.

Well yes, you are comparing apples to oranges here with prices. It's private school vs public run state schools. The price will be dramatically different. These "private" schools are a business. And businesses are after all there to make a profit.
Anyone purely looking to complain bc the program is expensive, never should have applied to anything but community college or CSU/UC systems. I'm sorry but that is reality.

Medical programs are crazy expensive and impacted esp in california. The pay scale is high and everyone wants money. There is no other job that a bachelors degree only can give you $80-100k annual salary. The same pay scale is for those in masters or higher degrees.

What's criminal is the same schools that charge these fees for liberal arts degree or other programs that you end up working at McDonalds with to pay off minimum charges on your student loans forever.

The future of higher education really needs to change! There is almost a degree for anything now. And 99% of those degrees won't get you a job. It puts parents in debt to their eyeballs and/or the student taking it out. Just to go back to college again to get a "useful" degree in some area they can get hired.

I'm hoping that this corona virus puts most of the universities out of business for good, and I'm praying the gov. doesn't bail them out with funding like they did the banks. Hopefully this crisis helps society take a hard look at what we have done to create the messes we are in. Make citizens focus on what's vital and important for our kids. We are seeing this first hand as students, imagine what it will be like for our kids if we stay on this course.

I know since I'm older and I've seen this surge in programs and costs etc... the downside is they push out more students from these programs than their is jobs. This is what happened to Pharmacy students, dental hygiene, doctors and even nurses not to many years ago. Doctors couldn't get residencies and then didn't finish becoming a doctor. I know a few... same with pharmacists.

Nurses there was way way way to many graduates then jobs. And we are now in same boat with covid19. The newest graduates have no jobs, but do have loans to pay back. They are hiring only experienced nurses and esp in areas of acute care. I'm hoping and ??that covid19 wraps up very soon, so by the time we all start programs we don't end up those same graduates with no job prospects.

@nicolie

my tuition plan is same as yours, LOL....

I wanted to ask them when we do the meeting next, what these "extra" charges go towards? Such as technology fee. Why charge a fee so high or at all, for internet. Most of our course work is online at our own home. The sim lab is under "lab fees" so are they basically double dipping the fees? There is quite a bit of extra costs absorbed into this program. And it's not covered by them but charged to us. We pay for drug testing fee, we pay to see the doctor to get immunization records, we pay to take the bls/CPR course. Yet it is all required.

Plus charging healthcare insurance also. I have health coverage, I pay for my entire family. I don't want additional insurance also.

I hate this new healthcare coverage law passed. Gotta love california! Charge everyone for the few that don't have it themselves.

Hey guys!

I was waitlisted but just got a email of acceptance on 4/25. I was planning on going to Utah for Roseman’s University but will be opting for Brandman instead. I just canceled my huge 38k loan (for only one year, I would have had to reapply for another loan for year 2) at that school. I’m pretty relieved. I wanted Brandman U because I have a young son and wouldn’t have to make the huge hectic move out there. I’m excited! My nursing core classes don’t start until Jan 2020.

Hi All,

I was just informed of this school and am highly interested in their ABSN program. Are the didactic/lectures all online and you would only have to attend clinicals?

@jluc13 Yes you can still apply and take the prereqs/gen ed courses needed at Brandman for their nursing program. The 2 LBSU courses needed for their program cannot get waived even if you have a bachelors degree. They told me they take 25-30 students for each cohort.

Hi Everyone, the facebook group is under Brandman Fall 2020 Cohort or something of the like LOL I don't recall what I specifically named it.

@Chunkybubblz3 I have not seen the fb thread for Brandman but there is a facebook group that was created called Brandman Fall 2020 Cohort. And awesome that we will be together! Not sure what the fees are but I can ask and see if I can get an answer from anyone. That would definitely be a great question to ask when we all meet up.

@jeccikac CONGRATS! Will you be starting the LBSU classes in May?

@HapaNess908 Yeah it seems like the lectures (via Blackboard) will be online and you will take your tests and SIM/skills lab at their campus. Then you would go to your assigned clinical site two days per week. That’s what I am seeing from my educational plan from them.

Thanks for the info everyone. I also wanted to ask if anyone would know if their prereq classes are transferable for example I haven't taken intro to bio or chem. My logic is that since Brandman is an accredited institution by WASC and the CCNE that they would be. If anyone knows that would be a lot of help just because I want to keep my options open if anything.

@jluc13 What have you taken?

@cbarn005 I've already taken A&P and micro except Bio, Chem, and Human Dev
