Brandman University ABSN Program

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi All,

I'm wondering if any one has heard of Brandman University. They have a new ABSN program in San Diego, CA that i'm looking into. My grades are not competitive but i want to get into my career soon.

Has anyone been to this school, and if so, how did you like it? Do you think I'll be able to land a good job as an RN if I were to apply and attend? I'm nervous, since it is a new program! Such as, what if they end up closing and the degree won't be valid ?

Thanks in advance.

Also is there anything you recommend buying for the program

You’ll do a ton of care plans which are worth 30% of your grade, and anything under 75% is a fail. So I would invest in a good Care Plan book. Also a good medication guide, there is a bunch of options out there. Also, purchasing a cardiac stethoscope is beneficial to hear lung and heart sounds etc because it amplifies it. Other then that, that’s about it I would say.

First off congratulations! You will have zoom meetings. Some teachers will post slides or material to look at and others won’t it’s depends on the class. You’ll have a lot of sherpath to do.

As for hospitals Sharp would be the only one. I know they are working on getting others but sharp is good enough for me.

I will say this, every program will have their issues and many people will complain about the smallest things, as for myself I love the program, I’m in the 2nd cohort so when everything was evolving we were adapting. They have some really good instructors, and many of them want to see you succeed. If there is something that you don’t understand, ask, I asked a lot of questions and have been able to learn as much as I can and move forward.

and again congratulations, you made it!

Thank you!! And thank you so much for the information! I feel like every nursing program theres always a few people that have lots to complain about haha. It’s always what you make of it. I am super excited and can’t wait to start! Best of luck to you with the remainder of the program! ?

Your very welcome anytime. Yeah there is , sometimes too many haha. But I’m just cruising with these handful of classes and consider it an accomplishment. If you have any other questions feel free to let me know

Hi All, I just found out that I’m waitlisted, hopefully it all works out!! My coach informed me that the mails were sent out on 6/10th so the latest everyone should receive their letters by Monday. ^^ hoping for the best! Good luck to everyone! And CONGRATS to those that got accepted!

HI! What was your GPA and what classes do they weigh it off of? Do you HAVE to have Intro to Bio and Intro to Chem done before you send in your application? I have the Microbiology and both anatomy pre-reqs as well as ones like sociology so I was wondering if they would let me apply and then do into to chem and bio instead of the other classes since I finished them.

When I got in my GPA was a 3.2, how it worked for me was, when I got accepted all the courses you need before you start the program was done before your cohort starts.  As long as it’s equivalent it will transfer in, the best way to find out, is to send in your transcripts to get evaluated. I know the program is competitive now, when I got in, the program just started. Good luck!

Hi, I am currently attending Brandman and would recommend it, I got accepted into the very first ABSN cohort which starts in the Summer of May 2020. The nursing core classes are 4 1/2 semesters including the summers. All of our clinicals are done at Sharp hospital which is great.

My daughter was accepted for fall 2022, so you still recommend this school for ABSN?

Hi Steve,

Yes I would. It’s a great school. Every school will have their issues and everyone will say something different. The instructors there are awesome and truly love to teach. I graduated in May. I would Highly recommend

Thank you for replying back!

No problem. It’s an accelerated program so classes will get tougher as she goes and also the class load will get larger with time. Make sure she doesn’t procrastinate on assignments because normally there is a signature assignment in each class that’s worth 300 points..: I’ve came close LOL.
