Brandman University ABSN Program

Published

Hi All,

I'm wondering if any one has heard of Brandman University. They have a new ABSN program in San Diego, CA that i'm looking into. My grades are not competitive but i want to get into my career soon.

Has anyone been to this school, and if so, how did you like it? Do you think I'll be able to land a good job as an RN if I were to apply and attend? I'm nervous, since it is a new program! Such as, what if they end up closing and the degree won't be valid ?

Thanks in advance.

hi @Jordyntighe I am applying for the oct 15 deadline but I guess Brandman changed to Umass Global. I've been trying to reach out to them but nothing yet. I really need to apply before that deadline LOL

@izzel louise abrajano yeah the name change really threw me off when I first saw it! If you can’t get ahold of anyone, just start an application! Once I started an application they would call me nonstop LOL

Can anyone explain to me how their clinicals work? I am from Sacramento but this program seems accredited and a decent program. Can anyone tell me their experience. I don’t mind flying or driving as long as I can schedule ahead of time.

Hi! I’m in cohort 4 we start our first clinicals next week and we go once a week to a clinical site this term. The past few terms we have been on campus 3 days a week. The days depend on which group you are in. Because of Covid each cohort was additionally split into 3 groups. But that will probably be going away with Covid restrictions lessening. There is a facebook page you can join too if you have more questions. I believe it’s Brandman Univeristy ABSN. And yes the school was bought and now it’s UMASS Global.

Hi,

I applied to the Spring 2022. Just waiting to hear back! I have been an anxious wrack! I wondering if anyone else has applied, and if so what are your GPAs?r have you heard anything back?

Or if you are currently attending or have applied what are the GPAs you applied with? I feel so worried about the GPAs!!

Hey Everyone,

I just came across this board, I’m currently a student and UMASS ABSN program slated to graduate in a few months. If you have any specific questions feel free to ask!

Massive111

thank you!! I do have a few questions.

what is the class schedule like?

also Is there a vaccine exemption?

what color are the scrubs?

Are you able to work and do this program?

thank you so much again

The program is blended, at first you will be all online, once you get the first few classes completed, you’ll go into the SD campus 3 days a week. After that, once you get into gerontology your start actual clinical.

There is a vaccine exemption at the school. BUT clinical placements won’t take you unless your fully vaccinated.

you’ll have a white top and burgundy bottoms, I started the program last august way before they changed the name. So not sure if they will get new uniforms or not.

You can work and complete the program, but it’s discouraged. I’ll be honest here, I didn’t think the program would be super hard. I would always think to myself, the next class couldn’t be harder then this, and guess what it has been. Every new class is harder and harder. The majority of my cohort is working and they don’t have an issue with it.

 Hope this helps

Wow thank you for all that information!!

okay I’m going to sound dumb here.. what are clinical placements?

Clinical placements is where you will get your hand on training. So those placements will be coordinated with the courses your taking. Right now our placements have been sub acute, acute, clinics and mental health offices.

@Massive111 I do have a few questions if you don’t mind!!

For the online portion (for nursing core), are there zoom meetings or is it all self paced where you watch lectures and stuff on your own?

If you don’t mind sharing, what hospitals have your clinical rotations been at so far?

I also just wanted to ask how you feel about the program so far? Do you feel like you are being well prepared or are they lacking in any areas?

I just got accepted for Spring 22 and I am super excited to start!
