Brandman University ABSN Program

Published

Hi All,

I'm wondering if any one has heard of Brandman University. They have a new ABSN program in San Diego, CA that i'm looking into. My grades are not competitive but i want to get into my career soon.

Has anyone been to this school, and if so, how did you like it? Do you think I'll be able to land a good job as an RN if I were to apply and attend? I'm nervous, since it is a new program! Such as, what if they end up closing and the degree won't be valid ?

Thanks in advance.

Someone should ask if you can challenge exam the course. National told me I could challenge exam theirs.

Just on a Pre-Nursing Forum call with National - they are waiving the TEAS requirement before their May 15 deadline - have until June 30 to take. You will be evaluated for an interview based on your GPA in A&P/Micro/Biostats (Biostats must be upper division). You have to be in on one of their calls to apply (can have been in last year), but I think there is an LA one you could still get in on. Still have to take TEAS though, but if you have a really good GPA - it will be 50% your GPA 50% your interview. Interview will be granted to top 90 based on GPA. Cohort starts in the fall.

What do you mean when you say you must have been in one of their calls to apply? Thank you

They have a mandatory Pre-Nursing Forum that you have to attend as part of the application process. I did it today.

Does anyone know how much Brandman estimates the total cost of attendance at? Including tuition, books, lab fees? National told me $60,000 today.

I spoke with ---------------------- today at Brandman and its about 53-57,000 depending on how many GE courses you have completed already.

How many GE courses did you have left to do? If the tuition is roughly $55K is that for students needing almost all GE then? Seems high, the mandatory 2 core lit classes they require at 3 units a pop, plus the nurse core is 68 units. It seems most students are transferring in majority of the GE courses outside of that.
A leaving most with 74 units to do @$500 per unit.

Thats only $37k.... where is the extra $20k going? Is anyone else getting really varied different tuition prices and answers from Brandman?

Starting to wonder of Azusa is the better option. They are at least straight forward and everyone comes in at the exact same start point (unit use for nurse core) and that's all they charge for. That's why they require everyone to be done with everything before you start. I think this is the confusion with Brandman. Too many people are all on different paths and start dates.

Most program have cohorts that all start at same time and therefore they all would end at the same time. Granted this school is new to this program and getting situated. We can all just ride the wave and roll with it along its journey or look into more established programs to feel "safer and secure" in those lingering questions everyone keeps bringing up from deep down inside. I agree I have them also, and it's a lot of money to feel uncertain in a program. But I have learned that no school, even the best ones guarantee your going to pass and pass state boards to get a job. That is all 100% up to each person. Get a NCLEX 2020 study book and start reading now, sign up for the study online courses and I'd suggest doing it simultaneously while in whatever program your in. This way when done, you can pass state boards with flying colors! ?

If no GE courses needed but the LBSU courses then $37,000 plus there is about another $7,000 in nursing fees as well that is not included in the tuition. So about $44,000. I needed about 5 GE courses still, so I can see where I was inconsistent on that. So the overall cost for just the nursing core you would add up the amount of units needed and the LBSU course times 500$ a unit. But there are the other nursing fee charges for supplies, labs, clinicals etc.

They also DO NOT have a payment plan. It is not a contract and you pay by start of each session. You do not have to pay the total of the program at once at start of program. You can use Federal loans through FAFSA. He said a lot of students go through Sallie Mae and external loans as well. They do not have internal scholarships and grants.

Just a heads up I was told by an admissions adviser that Brandman's tuition is going increase this upcoming Fall semester.

@ABSN_SD

I was told it would not. Who is your counselor that told you?

I saw someone post about tuition increasing in the Fall while I was on the phone with my financial advisor and asked him right away. He said tuition will not be increasing in the Fall. The only thing that will increase is your technology fee when you start your nursing core classes.

@nicolie

That is exactly what I was told ?

I find it very interesting that the information received directly from the Brandman staff changes from person to person. I'm finding other schools don't have this problem. In fact, a rep from National University told me their core science nursing pre-reqs are not consider upper division and National University excepts science core corses taken at CSU's. Something is off with Brandman.
