Hi All,
I'm wondering if any one has heard of Brandman University. They have a new ABSN program in San Diego, CA that i'm looking into. My grades are not competitive but i want to get into my career soon.
Has anyone been to this school, and if so, how did you like it? Do you think I'll be able to land a good job as an RN if I were to apply and attend? I'm nervous, since it is a new program! Such as, what if they end up closing and the degree won't be valid ?
Thanks in advance.

And mine might still be acceptable if I can provide them with a course syllabus to evaluate even if they are old.
I'm crossing fingers for you that they take your classes. I know how crappy it is to have to retake courses that you passed already esp with good grades. It's a waste of time and money and if you don't do as good for whatever reason 2nd go around you then have a lower GPA. I hate how knit picky these schools all are over courses. It doesn't even make sense either, Micro is Micro, AP is AP and statistics is statistics. I don't see how one school is worst or better than another. Every college has to get their courses approved by the higher education board to teach the course. The syllabus is reviewed and the teachers are approved to teach that course/materials etc.... so in reality if they offered as that course it should be transferable to any school anywhere. But they all give some kind of excuse as why it isn't. I had a college do a pre-eval of transcripts and they picked courses apart and excepted the weirdest ones and not others and the reasons they have were, we aren't 100% sure if that course is up to par against ours so just to be on the safe side we require you to takes ours here. Of course at $500 a unit per course to tack on the other "core" required classes for degree and the minimum residency units and lastly capstone courses that every school seems to have now that are "unique" to just them so nothing comparable can transfer in to not take them. Such as Brandmans literacy course which is "library lit" at every school. I'm getting tired of universities ripping students off just to make more money on useless courses. College shouldn't be run like a business out for profit and more for what it stands for "higher education."
I would love it if college was free for those wanting to go. I think if it was, less of these random courses would be required I bet.
I wish you could simply just take courses you wanted to to make a degree. Wouldn't that be nice ?

Yes. I agree. If I get accepted, I am going to see if I can challenge that class.
Does everyone know about Brandman's articulation database?
http://services.brandman.edu/studentservices/TransferCredit/
Regarding A & P, This "upper division" criteria is a bit arbitrary. If you look up San Diego City College, you will see their class is listed. National's is also listed. However, the number of credits don't always match. You have to make sure it transfers to the course number and isn't just random science credit.
Interestingly, I was told I could register as a non-degree student for the A&P courses starting in May. However, I do not know if there is space. I did submit the form. As I said, I had expected to retake these, it's the biology and Chemistry that is an annoyance, but perhaps between completing the A&P and Micro it will be ignored next round. And, I will be just that much closer to the core classes. I'm also going to take online Stats and Human Development Across the Life Span at the community college and listed on the articulation database and save piles of $$. If Brandman's A&P is full I found another upper division option that has equivalent credits and I'll take that. So, I've got a busy school Summer after all.
I'm also thinking about applying to the Yale online PA program despite the HUGE amount of $$$. The program looks more my style, they have rolling admissions, and I'd be a PA way faster than an NP. As they say, always have a plan B.
Good luck to all. I'll let you know if I get in A&P with Brandman.
Yale online PA is almost impossible to get into. They give priority to those close to there home base. I know 1 person that was accepted into their 2nd cohort after being declined the 1st go. And they changed the criteria now from what it was previously. It's harder to get into and smaller cohort.
If serious about PA school look into Southern California Univeristy of Health Sciences or Loma Linda for best chances and price. They also have been doing it longer and help you find a job afterwards. I can't say enough good things about Loma Linda. CBU and Chapman have programs also and I hear excellent things about both.
I'm trying to figure out what financial aid will be like at Brandman. They want you to do a Promissory Note prior to even starting the program or going over fasfa coverage. I'm starting to feel sketchy over Brandman. I'm wondering if anyone has any info on financial aid coverage and what they did or didn't not do???
Does anyone have info on financial aid coverage from Brandman? I'm not getting any clear answers regarding what they will cover with aid, or if they offer aid at all, other than taking out loans for the total. And they want to do the entire amount at once. Usually it's done in sections or at longest the first year term normally is what is done at most schools bc that's how loans are dispersed so a school isn't paid out entirely if a student drops out.
I've contacted the person that supposedly deals with financial aid and haven't got an email that answers what they cover, they emailed that you fill out Fasfa online and then they require you to fill out a Promissory note afterwards. Which to me seems fishy bc that basically is like signing a loan doc prior to knowing what you owe or will owe or an amount etc. No one would buy a car or home prior to knowing a total amount the interests and payments a month etc.
If anyone had already done financial aid or started the program and did financial aid, can your give some insight on what exactly they offer or didn't offer as far as aid options. And what the difference they owed then was for loans. With covid19 and no job right now and kids I kinda would like to have a ballpark idea of what I'm stepping into.
Most appreciated to everyone.
@Chunkybubblz3Thanks for all the insights into PA school. I just like the online aspect and I can't relocate. It can't hurt to try. Somebody's got to get in.
I think Brandman is just down to the wire trying to fill their class at the last minute and so they don't have time to do things properly. As has been said it is a new program and they are not as organized as they might be. But it does seem they should give you a package. They want you to sign a promissory note for the entire program? What kind of total did they give you? All you have is the Core Nursing and the two classes you have to take there?
even at lets say the 68 units of just nurse core that's still $34k and I was kinda hoping to not pay all of it. I am single parent of multiple kids and low income bc not working. According to fasfa I should qualify for a good amount of aid. If it was a cal state U it would be covered completely by pell grants and other aid.
So far I'm not seeing any aid discount other than offering loans with no interest while in school.
Seems crazy to me that don't have any aid discount at all?
15 minutes ago, mdOldie said:Yes, I would think that you should be able to get Pell Grant. I am wondering how much other fees they add on . . . Good luck.
Ditto ?
I only wonder bc Chapman is a cousin company basically and they don't offer a lot of financial aid options. So makes me wonder what options Brandman will have. I just want all my ducks in a row. I'm on a budget and savings to cover what I can to do this program. Now with covid19 it has eaten into that budget. So I'm a bit scared at what I will owe now and what I can afford.
Any one on waitlist got accepted? I’m a little confuse I thought last Wednesday they will let people on waitlist know if they got accepted since it was the deadline for those who fail to not respond. Now today when I call admission office the lady told me they are still review applications. Does anyone know what the truth is?
