Hi everyone,
With the Nov 15 deadline looming close and closer, I wanted to start a topic for everyone applying. I'm just about ready to submit my application. Still obsessing over the personal statement, especially the part about personal development and being a lifelong learner, etc. Not an easy essay topic! How are everyone's applications coming?
I'll PM both of you over the weekend :). Finances are going to be a big determinant for me...I'm very glad to have received a merit-based scholarship from BC! I've also applied to Yale and UCSF and am waiting to hear back following my interviews (though it looks like BC want an answer before Yale even release decisions).
I was accepted to the AGNP track! Really nice that the first school I heard back from was an acceptance, and I like the BC program. If anyone's curious about applicant backgrounds:
I have my bachelor's in chemistry and I work in a lab. Been out of school for about 5 years, so some of my science pre-reqs were out of date. I guess having a hard science background and job made up for the fact that it's technically been more than 5 years since I took basic chemistry and microbiology.
GPA: 3.67
GREs:
170 verbal
163 quant
5.5 writing
I have zero patient care experience. I have some non-healthcare related volunteer experience, mostly tutoring.
I got accepted to the AGNP track as well. Here's my background!
GPA: 3.6
GREs: 162 quant, 157 verbal, 5 writing
Pre-Reqs: all pre-reqs also required for pre-med were done
Finishing up my bachelors in microbiology. Undergraduate research on Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
Additional: EMT-B certified and volunteered on campus, worked as patient observer at MGH, mother is a well-experienced gerontology NP

Damn. And I thought my GREs were good. Those are crazy scores. Nice work!

Vanderbilt is my top choice only because I am from the Northeast and looking to live somewhere warmer :-) Also, Boston is crazy expensive. BC is my second choice though. It's a great program from what I hear.
My stats: 3.65 GPA from first degree in Philosophy and Asian Studies. 3.97 GPA from second degree in Psychology. 4.0 in prereqs. I volunteered at an outpatient mental health center for two and a half years and 9 months at a hospital psych ward. I was also a research assistant in two labs for 2.5 years. Presented research at 2 conferences (EPA) . Also did lots of clinical assessments. My GRE was 166 verbal, 160 math, 5.0 writing. Hmm, i think that's about it. Looks like I had some good competition! :)
