Hi everyone,

With the Nov 15 deadline looming close and closer, I wanted to start a topic for everyone applying. I'm just about ready to submit my application. Still obsessing over the personal statement, especially the part about personal development and being a lifelong learner, etc. Not an easy essay topic! How are everyone's applications coming?

Bump.

Where else is everyone applying? Anyone else going for the psych mental health track?

Hey Mzaur. I'm not applying for 2014, but was wondering if you've been to any info sessions or spoken to anyone about the psych track. Is it in-person or online? Do they guarantee preceptors? Do they seem particularly focused on therapy or med management? I'm considering applying in the future, but still have a year left of BSN after this year.

Hey,

BC is not online. If you want online, then I know Vanderbilt has an online option. From what I understand, BC does guarantee preceptors. I would not be applying if I had to find my own, especially with how expensive these programs are. Every PMHNP program will focus on psychopharmacology since that is essentially what the role entails, but every program I've seen, including BC, has a class on therapy. You will not be doing much if any therapy unless you have a private practice, and in that case you can get training in therapy (CBT, ACT, DBT, etc) through workshops. If you're considering applying, then I really recommend you to start volunteering in a psychiatric setting, unless you're already doing so.

Thanks! I'm also looking for an in-person program that guarantees preceptors. Some programs do go above and beyond with the psychotherapy coursework, but workshops sound like a good option too. Thanks for the tip. Did you/do you volunteer in a psychiatric setting?

I also am applying to Vanderbilt, Yale, MGH, and Seattle U. You should also look into UCSF, Columbia, UPenn, OHSU, and University of Rochester. All have good psych programs.

I volunteered for 2 years at an outpatient mental health center and 8 months at a hospital psychiatric ward. Best of luck to you :) PM me if you want to talk more

I guess no one else here applied this year to BC? I'm waiting anxiously for a decision!

I applied. Anxiously awaiting as well. Congrats on Yale...and Emory, right?

Thanks! Traveling to Yale later this week for an interview, and I had a phone interview earlier last week with Vanderbilt.

I just got an email about a phone interview for BC. Didn't realize that they do interviews. Maybe just for PMHNP program? Also in the email they said that admissions will be making decisions shortly. :D

Anxiously awaiting admissions decisions. I guess it could be any day, though in recent years it has started toward the end of the first week of February. My daughter is applying in Women's Health and BC is first choice. A colleague at work is applying in Psych. Anybody hearing anything?

I also applied to this program for Psych. Haven't heard anything yet - hoping sooner than later! Good luck to all
