Hi everyone,
With the Nov 15 deadline looming close and closer, I wanted to start a topic for everyone applying. I'm just about ready to submit my application. Still obsessing over the personal statement, especially the part about personal development and being a lifelong learner, etc. Not an easy essay topic! How are everyone's applications coming?
I'll be going to the admitted students day Friday the 21st. Trying to decide whether I prefer BC or MGH (which offered me a significant scholarship), though if I get into Yale or off the wait list at Penn the decision will be moot. I imagine I'm not the only person making that decision. Anyone, especially in psych, have thoughts on how the differences between BC and MGH come out for you?
MGH gave me a great scholarship as well. I would still choose BC honestly. I just think of the extra year in the 3 year programs (MGH, Yale, etc) as one less year I can be working. The scholarship at MGH kind of makes up for that, but that's still one more year of school. I personally want to be done asap, which is why I'm considering BC or Vandy. Even if I get into Yale, I won't be going. Location is a factor for me as well and I honestly would rather live in Boston than Connecticut, so I would probably choose MGH over Yale. Prestige doesn't really factor into my decision at all. This isn't an MBA or JD program. All of them are top notch and have good reputations.
This is a personal choice for me, and you may prefer the extra time in school and preparation. I have heard great things though about both BC and Vandy's PMHNP programs, so I doubt that they leave you unprepared at the end of the 2 years. I also heard great things about Yale and MGH. So it just comes down to your personal preferences.
mzaur: I agree that it's all just a matter of what you personally prefer more in terms of location, cost, length of program, etc. I wish I can trade scholarships with you! I received one for BC but none for MGH Institute. Personally, I'm leaning towards MGH over BC right now because of the extra year in school (a bit worried that the 2 year program will burn me out) and also because MGH awards a BSN along with your MSN (still unsure how important having a BSN is as a NP, but it's still a nice plus). Even though I've been pretty stressed out and researching like a maniac these past few days, I'm glad we at least have decent schools to choose from! : )
If only we could somehow do that... then I would for sure go to MGH and end this miserable indecision. Are you waiting to hear back from Vanderbilt, or are you just deciding between BC & Vandy now? I was thinking about applying there too, but I just couldn't picture myself in Tennessee. I actually shadowed a FNP who went to Vandy and she said she definitely felt prepared after graduating, so you can't go wrong either way.
Good luck - I have my fingers crossed for you! : )
Does anyone know about the deadlines for the FAFSA & BC Graduate Financial Aid Application?
The details are here: Graduate Financial Aid: Where Do I Begin? - Office of Student Services - Boston College but I'm not sure which category we'd fall under if we were to attend this Fall...

The way I read it, I believe that we would fall under the "Incoming Graduates (Feb. 1 or Earlier Admission Deadlines)" category, which would mean that the FAFSA is due Feb. 17th and the BC form is due Feb. 24th.

I've been wondering the same. I applied FNP and haven't heard anything.
