Hello fellow BMCC nursing applicants,
Anyone applying for Fall 2011? They now require the HESI A2 (I believe the Spring '11 hopefuls didn't need HESI). Does anyone know what the percentages will be for prereq GPA/ overall GPA/ HESI score in determining the rankings?
I'm pretty worried now because I was hoping to boost up my overall GPA from 3.7 to above 3.8 this semester. But finals just passed, and I calculated my grades; I think my GPA is dropping to a ~3.63 because I might receive a C in my Microbio class. I'm considering emailing my professor and requesting some kind of administrative withdrawal instead of getting the C. If somehow I'm allowed the withdrawal, my GPA will become ~3.84. My prereq GPA is ~3.86 (2As, 2A-s).
BMCC is notorious for rejecting 3.8s, let alone 3.7s and lower. Should I rely on acing the HESI or should I contact my professor and hope I get the withdrawal? Or is there a possibility that a 3.7 this sem could get accepted?
@JFVargas, yeah you're correct, that's the system they use for determining the rank for getting into the program. Zaika was referring to the lottery system used to determine the order of registration for the classes after your acceptance.
Also, I agree the process is pretty convoluted, but most likely they are putting limits to keep up with the increasing applicant pool. That, and of course, money.
@Zaika, I'm disheartened that all the books will cost $800, and this is just for NUR112?! My sister is currently attending Hunter's nursing program, so I could use her books as she's only a year ahead in clinicals, but I don't know how the class situation will be. And I don't want to risk having to go back and forth between Hunter's textbooks and borrowing BMCC's books from the library (which is what I ended up doing for all the science prereqs. It was such an annoying process). But still, $800 is really expensive :[

It's very expensive, but I'll try to buy them all because we will need them for NCLEX preparation. I will try the Amazon maybe I can find the used a little cheaper. Some people do copies from library and sometimes it's worth it,especially for lab books. But I have a kid and I don't have time to do that.
hello everyone,
pls i registered to write Hesi on the 20th of august, for admission into UTHSC houston.they require math, reading comprehension, vocabulary and general knowledge, grammar, anatomy and physiology, critical thinking, learning styles and personality styles.
question 1: please did any one already take the test for this school, i registered for the "admission asssment test with critical thinking,is it the right one?"
question 2: i heard that it will be a 4hr test, with all these sections do i need to really rush through them on that day to keep up with time?
Question 3:pls do i just ignore the sections that are not required by the school( eg chemistry, physics) or are those courses going to be automatically removed from the my test?
Question 4: i have bought the hesi book from evolve and also the mcgraw hill's test, with these two is there any particular way i should study (based on where i should concentrate on.)
i am so sorry, its a lot of questions ithat i am asking, i am so scared.pls any answer will help.you dont have to answer all, just any one that u know about.any thing helpful will be appreciated.thanks in advance.
2.you have to be careful with the time because at our school many students didn't get a chance to finish. We were tested on reading, math, anatomy and critical thinking.Math part had 50 questions, easy, but it takes a while.Reading had around 50 questions and 10 short texts and you need at least 1 hr for this.Anatomy and critical thinking had about 30 question each,I didn't need too much time for them.
3.Yes you have to ignore the sections that are not required.
4.I had the Evolve book.it's a good review book, but it doesn't have enough examples.
Don't worry!I think that the test was easy!
Good luck!

What do you mean that registration order is a lottery? I thought that they ranked everyone by the GPA from the 4 pre-reqs, and then cut applicants off at a certain point, and then from THAT group, call the students by alphabetical order. Am I wrong?
Because it would be unfair if someone with a last name like mine (Vargas) with a GPA of 3.93 won't get in over someone with a last name like Hernandez with a GPA of 3.86 just because that person's last name comes before mine.
I dunno, this whole process is way too complicated. And all for an ADN, not even a BSN lol.
