Hi everyone. So I applied to BMCC and was accepted . I have to take one other test because I had applied to Bronx Community College for the LPN in 2006 but never went. I am going to the school next week to get all my registration done.. I was told that there are a bunch of Pre Reqs I have to do first. I guess what I wanted to know is how long does it take to complete the pre reqs on an evening schedule. And once i do, how long until I actually start Nursing School itself?

Hi Evie!

Congratulations on your acceptance! I have a few questions for you...

I'm looking to apply into a nursing program for Spring 2011 and I wanted to ask you if in your application you clearly specified the nursing program or the liberal art program?

I'm curios because a lot of people told BMCC is becoming very competitive and many people apply to liberal arts and then switch to nursing.

Are you a transfer from another college or do you have a previous degree? Did you have to take any admission exam? What's your GPA like?

I apologize for all this, but any help will be greatly appreciated! At the moment I'm at NYU in the Liberal Arts program and looking to transfer to their nursing program in the spring, but I don't want to put all my eggs in one basket, in case I don't get accepted. My GPA right now is about 3.7.

Thank you so much!

Hi. For now, I'm only in for the pre reqs as far as I know. I have to go down to the school on Friday to take one writing test and speak to an advisor. I will tell you that if getting into the Nursing School turns into jumping through hoops I'd rather spend more money and just go to a private less competitive school.

Hi...I totally agree Evie!! That's exactly my point, I know I will have a huge loan to pay back once I graduate but I rather do that then compete with other 3.9-4.0 GPAs!!

Good luck an keep us posted!

Hi everyone!

I have the same question. I am going to transfer to BMCC for spring 2011, but not sure if I should apply as liberal arts or pre-nursing student. There is no pre-nursing or pre-clinical field in the application, only liberal arts (eve or day). I am sooo confused, because somedbody told that it is gonna be difficult to switch after liberal arts to prenursing major.

does anybody know what to do???

thanx in advance!!!!

Hi Sterlik,

My suggestion is to go to their open house or better yet, see the preclinical coordinator (M.Sierra) on 7th floor to ask your question. If you're unable to, enroll in person (instead of online) and make sure first to let the enrollment adviser know that you want to take pre-nursing.

When I enrolled last year Spring in one of their open house, I had the option to be a pre-nursing student instead of liberal arts. Unfortunately, missing transcript prevented me from doing so and was stuck as liberal arts student. I don't know if rules might have changed now but my advice is to make sure you have that option first before they put you into liberal arts dept.

hi all-

ok so im trying to figure out what to do. i was set on going to either College of New Rochelle or Laguardia and do part-time while i get my pre-reqs out of the way. both have nursing programs. i wasnt sure what i wasnt going to do once i actually started the nursing program (i have to work full time) but where there is a will there is a way!! so i came across the night program at bmcc and it was heaven sent!! Now im just not sure how to get started. I havent set foot in school in almost 10yrs (im 30)!! i called the office and all im told his to put my app in online. I called Mr.Sierra in the nursing dept and was told the same thing (he wasnt very nice)

how does it work as far as declaring a major to get into the nursing program? do you just start school, take the pre-reqs and apply for the program? can anyone declare a nursing major and just get going?

i submitted my fafsa, am not able to get a Pell...bc the wonderful system of NY thinks we come home with our gross salary! so here i am, i need to figure out 1. how much partime will cost me a semester while i do my clinicals (2-3) classes. Then when accepted into the nursing program (i have to say "when"bc i refuse to think otherwise!:clown:) what the cost is for that? Also, what the program is actually like for those working?

i know this is alot but i cant get answers out of anyone at the schools and finding this thread was the biggest blessing ever!! So, if anyone could please help me i would appreciate so very much!!:D

Thanks!

Hi Redfalcon518

I just started taking my pre-reqs there. Follow this link and hopefully it will take you to where you can apply online. https://portal.cuny.edu/cms/id/cuny/documents/informationpage/006373.htm . I went through the same process. you have to apply now if you want to get in for the summer or fall. I have 3 more classes to take before i can apply to the program. you have to take your pre-reqs or at least be taking the last ones before you can apply. You then apply, take an entrance exam (NLN) and then they will accept you based on your GPA and exam score. as far as finances, I am taking math 104 which is a 3 credit course and the total cost is $506.

hope this helps

Thank you Dahlia!! :) Would you happen to know if any of the pre-reqs are available online? are you working full-time as well? how do you like the school so far? the teachers? if thats the cost then i guess the per credit is higher than what is listed on their site.

do you live in queens??

So far I like my math teacher. He got bad ratings on ratemyprofessors.com but I dont have any problem with him. As for the school I have the same problems you mentioned. Its hard to get information. They gave me the run around during the registration process. For example, I went to the asdmisions office and thought I had provided all the information, but when I logged on to the system I saw that i needed to bring other things in. If I had not logged on and looked I would think everything was complete. If you decide to go there you have to be proactive. Don't wait for them to tell you things. They offer 5 of the pre-reqs on line: both psychology classes, sociology, speech, and english 2. I do work full time and I don't live in Queens.
