Anyone go through the Evening or weekend option? I'm not sure what these would entail??? When do you do your clinicals? Did you do it while working in a different field during the day? I need some advice.

According to Dennis Mahoney who is the Coordinator for the CPRboston.org CPR programs at Caritas Carney Hospital in Dorchester from the link given above, all of the classes are for healthcare providers.

Hey Spudbunny,

Glad you're all set. Yeah I knew that had all the credentials, because of past students.

See you soon.

how did you turn in your acceptance letters? did you give it to donna in person, or did you just drop it off at the admissions office? i just dropped mine off and left it with someone in the admissions office.

Hi IGOTIN,

I just dropped mine off at the registration desk, but got a copy of it with my signature first. I sent an email to Donna asking that she confirms receipt, but I have finals tomorrow so when I'm down there I'm going to check in person

the orientation went well, although they did not mention that one third of the students fail out!!! interesting.

are you going to buy all the books on the reading list (9+ books, right?) i have heard that it's not necessary to buy all of the books on that list. if you know people already in the program, can you ask them about the reading list (ie. do we need to buy all those books)?

and what about the $450 ATI testing software fee! wow! i thought my inheritance was going to pay for nursing school, but it looks like it will only pay for half of it, with all these extra expenses that i did not anticipate .... such as the "high-cost course fee" added to my tuition bill (that alone added $350 to the regular fees/tuition). still BHCC is the best deal around when it comes to getting a nursing education.

i was surprised at how many older students there were -- i think half the group was over 35 - so i will have lots of company. i also thought my weight might be a problem, but i saw many students who were much heavier than me ... so apparently the clinicals are not that physically demanding?

i liked my clinical instructor! she seemed very nice.

Yes, I thought the weekend professor seemed very nice. I too was surprised by the "high cost course fees" but there is nothing we can do about it. If anyone in the nursing program at BHCC still needs to take PSY 113 - Human Growth and Development - I have a ninth edition Pagalia book that you may have free. The recommended edition is the tenth edition but I used the ninth edition and had no problems in the class. I am starting to look into books now on ebay. I would also like to hear how many polo shirts, pants and lab jackets people are planning on ordering before I place my order.

I graduated from the weekend program. Do NOT buy all of the textbooks. You basically need just the one main textbook for medical surgical class. And I would buy just one uniform. You can just buy more navy scrub pants from any store if you need them. Who are the instructors now?

For those entering BHCC nursing program fall 2008, have you received any emails yet from your professors? I haven't and was just wondering if anyone else had.

Spudbunny

i have not heard from our clinical teacher yet. i wanted to email her, and ask her about the book list, because some of the dates/editions do not match up ... unless new editions are scheduled to be released this summer. i am afraid that i will buy the wrong book. and since i am ordering them from amazon.com, it will be difficult to return them. what are you doing about your books spudbunny? when do we have to pay the $450 for the ATI site?

I purchased a 5th edition of Taylor's "Fundamentals of Nursing" from Amazon for $.99 and have started reading that. I will also be emailing the nursing department for info on the med-surg and maternal-child books we will need for later semesters so I can hopefully buy them cheaply this summer. I have not got any info about ATI - I will wait until the last minute to buy that !!!

IGOTIN,

Do you happen to be Kim..This is Vanessa

For all the new nursing students @ BHCC do not buy all the books they ask u to. Fundamentals, assessment (the small one), drug boor and nursing diagnosis is all u need. Laboratiry book I look for the first time after graduation to lok up labs., but we did not use it at all in the 2 years. Uniforms u only need 2 tops and 2 pants. By the way I have tha BHcc thing that u have to sew to the top if anyone interested at no cost.
