Bunker Hill Community College -Boston
i took A&P with an awesome teacher! he makes it easy, and he teaches it so well. he is a MD too, i believe. he teaches A&P at the Chelsea campus. but be sure to register early for his section because it fills up quickly. There is also a very good teacher for Human Growth & Development.

NCLEX PASS RATE i saw that BHCC's pass rate was only 62% for the NCLEX. for some reason, i thought it was much higher. some other community colleges also had low pass rates. it looks like i will have to start studying for the NCLEX from the very beginning of the program in order to pass it with ease. i had no idea that the test was so hard to pass!

UNIFORMS for BHCC today, i got my uniforms from the NH company that took our orders during orientation. i am a little disappointed. the polo shirt fabric is scratchy and mostly polyester. the pants are too small in the seat. the lab coat is too heavy. i'm really not going to be comfortable wearing these clothes for clinicals, and would like to find substitutes that are better made. can i just go to a local uniform shop around boston and buy substitutes, or am i required to buy uniforms only from this NH company? of course i would return the stuff from NH. thanks.

i have not heard from our clinical teacher yet. i wanted to email her, and ask her about the book list, because some of the dates/editions do not match up ... unless new editions are scheduled to be released this summer. i am afraid that i will buy the wrong book. and since i am ordering them from amazon.com, it will be difficult to return them. what are you doing about your books spudbunny? when do we have to pay the $450 for the ATI site?

No new grad positions in Boston hospitals
i am counting on the job market changing by the time i graduate (hopefully for the better).

No new grad positions in Boston hospitals
it never occurred to me that anyone would hire me for just a couple shifts a month. i could probably manage that. how would i look into it? thanks.

is it just grads with AS degrees (RN's) who have trouble finding a job, or do grads with BSN degrees (4 years) also have trouble finding a job? i start nursing school this fall (2 year RN program). i have a young child, so i can't work while in school. i have no medical experience. what can i do to increase my odds of getting a job after graduation? someone mentioned externships? are those paid? i can probably manage a few hours a week as a hospital volunteer. would that help me get a job after graduation? i don't have the money to take a CNA class (they cost $800+ here).

the orientation went well, although they did not mention that one third of the students fail out!!! interesting. are you going to buy all the books on the reading list (9+ books, right?) i have heard that it's not necessary to buy all of the books on that list. if you know people already in the program, can you ask them about the reading list (ie. do we need to buy all those books)? and what about the $450 ATI testing software fee! wow! i thought my inheritance was going to pay for nursing school, but it looks like it will only pay for half of it, with all these extra expenses that i did not anticipate .... such as the "high-cost course fee" added to my tuition bill (that alone added $350 to the regular fees/tuition). still BHCC is the best deal around when it comes to getting a nursing education. i was surprised at how many older students there were -- i think half the group was over 35 - so i will have lots of company. i also thought my weight might be a problem, but i saw many students who were much heavier than me ... so apparently the clinicals are not that physically demanding? i liked my clinical instructor! she seemed very nice.

How to prepare for first semester of nursing school?
can anyone advise me on the best way to prepare for nursing school this fall? i was accepted into a part-time RN program. i would like to start studying over the summer, so things will be a little easier for me when school starts in september. someone suggested that i learn the 20 most commonly used drugs. what else should i study? should i volunteer at a local hospital? thanks.

how did you turn in your acceptance letters? did you give it to donna in person, or did you just drop it off at the admissions office? i just dropped mine off and left it with someone in the admissions office.

go to: http://www.cprboston.org/ click on "Programs at Carney Hospital." they have 4 CPR classes a month ... although it does not say "healthcare provider" level, so i need to call them to verify that it is an advanced CPR class.
