You guys are so right!! I am now packing a lunch for myself so I cannot compromise my diet by going for the junk food.that seems to be everywhere in my unit. I also stop bringing $$ with me so I cannot go to the machines for a quick fix...

Saw this posted on another board:

Hey Everyone, This takes me to a bit of exciting news. My daughter,

Kristin, age 21, had gastric bypass surgery 2 years ago and has lost

over 125 lbs. I called The Maury show a week ago and told them her

story and they just flew her and I to New York this last Thursday

and Friday to tape an upcoming episode. It was a surprise and

Kristin thought I had won a drawing for a trip to see the show. We

will appear on the show next Wednesday with others who have had

significant weight lost.To find when it plays locally just go to the

internet and put in "Maury" and go to the site and click on station

search and put in town or zip code. This was an amazing experience

and as Kristin put it our "15 mins. of fame". She received a

makeover and got a $500 shopping spree at a local department store.

Just wanted to let you all know since I am so proud of her. I just

wish I had known I would actually be on the show as I would have

lost that extra 10 lbs too and had my hair re-highlighted. Oh well.

It was nice to get away and something we will remember for a

lifetime.

To the poster who thinks all we "obese" people need to do is quit eating. Did I get overweight from eating, duh....! Now the real question YOU should be asking is WHY? I use food as a fix! I suffer from depression, and when my depression reared its ugly face for the first time...this is when I started gaining weight. But I wasn't aware I was depressed until years later. So just to enlighten you, it really has nothing to do with how much I eat, that is just the outcome. The real issue here, is WHY I overeat!!!!

Now your educated!!!!

Maybe you need to educate yourself as to why you overeat, and deal with it.

Illness....Strike 3!:stone

Cannoli, why the hostiility? You appear to be totally unwilling to attempt to understand circumstances of people who have lived thru this. People are just attempting to get information and MOST people understand obesity is complicated with many causes.

No hostility here. I still say most people are obese because they take in more calories than they expend, it's a simple formula.

As a nurse you should know that it is not that simple! What about tyroid problems, GI problems, emotional problems, mobility problems, genetic factors, etc. etc. etc. It is not that simple. We are not here to judge people, but to educate and help those who people want it. Obviously you have never experienced the type of discrimination and humiliation that overweight people sometimes get. And I hope you never do!

Before you jump in with comments like that, try reading the previous posts, I have already addressed that.

rpbear, thank you for your insight. So true. I could not agree more. I am sorry to see this thread is being so influenced by Cannoli, and I have read everything from the first. I find her statements to be narrow minded and mean. For all considering surgical treatment educate yourself ,if appropriate it can save your life, for all that have experienced the discremination and read the statements that have been made here, that only continues to feed into the imagine of no self worth and being losers because we can not do something that is being so simplified, understand that there are many of us that do understand. because we have been there.

I don't seem to be influencing anything.

Tesslyn, you ask about hostility, in your first post you used the words "stupid" and "idiot", how's that for hostility?

I am not narrow minded and mean.

I do accept responsibility for my actions and the consequences of those actions.

Weren't you the one who blamed your obesity on nursing?
