  1. Cannoli, stupid and idoit I was referring to your statements, blaming nursing for my weight problem yes your point. I get the impression you are the type of person that has to always be right. I did not get into another thread on the same subject because you were in it. I would think that all the messages people have written to you would give you some insight that you are the only one that believes in your narrow stand. I am in threads for information and to help others with my experience, you talk from neither. Shame on you. Anyone interested in information about surgery feel free to write and I will answer anything I can but, I refuse to bat words back and forth with someone that refuses to acknowledge any other opinions that helps knowone
  2. rpbear, thank you for your insight. So true. I could not agree more. I am sorry to see this thread is being so influenced by Cannoli, and I have read everything from the first. I find her statements to be narrow minded and mean. For all considering surgical treatment educate yourself ,if appropriate it can save your life, for all that have experienced the discremination and read the statements that have been made here, that only continues to feed into the imagine of no self worth and being losers because we can not do something that is being so simplified, understand that there are many of us that do understand. because we have been there.
  3. Cannoli, why the hostiility? You appear to be totally unwilling to attempt to understand circumstances of people who have lived thru this. People are just attempting to get information and MOST people understand obesity is complicated with many causes.
  4. I apprechiate the postings on exercise and diet not being the answer for everyone. I know the surgery saved my life. But, I also know that I probably would not have been in the condition I was if it had not been for nursing. If you look around we have a very large number of obese nurses. What has helped me in addition to the surgery is I refuse to tolerate rude arrogant doctors, rude, cut throat nurses. and nursing administration that are unable to remember what it is like, I refuse to let my lunch go and have nothing to eat for 12 hours but junk. We are a population of comfort eaters. A doctor yells at you and you eat, etc. I now will address behavior that is inappropriate. I believe I do it in a professional manner but, I will not be a door matt for ANYONE to walk on ever again. So along with all the suggestions we also must start taking care of ourselves and really supporting one another.
  5. Again I say if you have not lived the life of an obese person you have no idea of what works and what does not. Educate yoursellf.
  6. Tesslynn replied to LuvsOB's topic in Travel
Floating and being called off depend on the contract and the hospitals policy. I have been a traveler for three years. In Phoenix at St. Joes the traveler floated all the time. I'm ICU and would be floated to the step-down unit because this unit was hard to fill. They would float in regular staff from another ICU and make a traveler go to the hated step-down. I was never called off because the contract was guarranteed hours. St. John's in Oxnard CA the traveler floats first. Some staff have not floated in a year, while I would float the entire week. I was also called off for a total of 36 hours. Travelers would be called off if staff did not want the time off. Staff from another unit that was low on census would take travelers positions and travelers would have to stay home. You would have four hour incriments that you were called off for, shortly before the four hours were up they would call you off for the next four hours. This policy making it impossible to do anything with your day because you had to be available but, unable to receive on-call pay because you are called off. May sure you pay attention to your contract. Anything can happen, and the longer I am in this business I find it will happen.
  7. Todd SPN It really burns me up when people have no idea what they are talking about come up with stupid suggestions like: "Why doesn't he just exercise" People should be ashamed of themselves for thinking and putting in writing any comments about weight loss being easy. Anyone that thinks someone is "taking the easy way out is an idiot" Do not listen to people that have not had the surgery, go online to bariatric treatment centers and get correct information. I had the surgery a year and a half ago, after years of dieting, exercising and facing the looks everyday by so called compassionate co-workers that believed if I wanted to do something about my weight I could. The surgery is dangerous the recovery is long but, I now have a life.
