  1. Congratulations! You will do great. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Listen to that little voice in your head and always trust your gut instinct. If your unit has a complainers try not to join in, it just drags you down. Good luck
  2. Why is there a shortage? Reason #999 Because when the Dr. makes an error in judgement the nurse will ultimately be blamed and then the nurses unit manager will not back her up.
  3. I still say run. Keep a journal and every week / month ask yourself if things have gotten better. Set a time frame and if things are not better by then LEAVE. Of course he probably searchs your stuff and will find said journal and a fight will ensue. Sigh.
  4. I'd run! Sounds like a control freak to me. Has he ever been abusive in his past relationships? My guess would be yes. I feel for you but I doubt it will ever get any better. People do not change. I would definately hold off having kids. It's easier to get out without them.

I would still go to school as planned. Let your instructors know that you will be missing school for a medical procedure. It would be a shame to postpone school for another year if everything is fine. If things aren't ok then you could drop out as needed. Good luck with everything.
  6. I LOVE my job. I work L & D and it's great. I've been a nurse over 10 years and I still love it. Sure some days are hard and sometimes management/other staff bugs me, but overall it's great and I would not want to do anything besides nursing. I do plan to be a CNM but that is still in nursing.
  7. I'm with you! I too love being a nurse but I also love animals. Many times I find myself wishing I worked with animals. To bad they don't have animal midwives or a pet pediatricians! What great jobs those would be.
  8. There is a new procedure with much less blood loss but after the baby wears a helmut for 6 months to a year. I'm not sure the name of the procedure. I could find out if you want to know.
  9. In my hospital we have a NP in the ER. I work OB so I never see her but I've heard she sees pts just like the md. A nurse I work with said her mom saw her for a laceration and the NP sutured her.
  10. This is the school Ive been looking into!
  11. Thanks for all of your replies. My head tells me to check out the market and proceed with caution. My heart says to just go for what I want and all the details will work out in the end. I think I'll go for it. The kids are all in college and I'm still young (41). My husband is a pilot and is employable anywhere. We both like adventure so we can move if needed.
  12. I'm considering midwife school but due to my geographic location it will be a great inconvience and expense. I'm just curious what the market looks like in other areas. No midwives in my area or anywhere close. Are midwives used where you live?
  13. Thanks for the replies.
  14. I am considering a masters in nursing education. I think I would like to teach nursing and I am wondering if a degree in nursing education would be better than a generic MSN. The nurse educator track teaches how to develop a curriculum, teaching adult learners, etc. My thought is if I'm going to teach I should learn how to do it. Anyone have any advice?
