Best way to mark your stethoscope?

Published

Hello to all! Just got my first Littmann today - so excited! I hear that, intentionally or not, expensive stethoscopes tend to walk away. What have you found to be the most effective way of identifying your name on it? Thanks so much! Best of luck to you!

:lol2: In Red sharpie, write "THIS STETH STOLEN FROM --

---your name--- "!

But as you all know...if someone wants to steal it from you, they will find a way. Pretty bad huh?:nono:

I just know someone is going to walk off with mine. I have found myself leaving it at patients bedside already when I am trying to do something. Luckily, I have friends that I work with in clinical who remind me to put it in my pocket or say, "don't forget your stethescope!"

Hehe..I think if you use a permanent marker on the side like in black maybe? Someone once recommended a bright color. I have a light purple one and I always see people looking at my steth with these thoughts of "hmmm" I can see it in their eyes:lol2: You know what I'm sayin'??

I'm thinking of getting some obnoxious colored electrical tape and taping the metal earpieces of the stethescope. I figure that if I want to remove the tape later it'll be easier to clean the glue off the metal earpieces.

I guess if someone really wants to steal it though that won't stop him, but maybe I'll get a chance to see it leaving.

I have a Litt too and I just used the "unremovable" tag they sold at the uniform store I got the steth at.....I dunno...

One of my classmates does beading & she made something similar to these for her scope & gave me one too. My name is in beads right where you can see it. Of course, all it take is a snip from a pair of scissors & it's gone so if someone wants to steal it, I'm toast.

Just a reminder that adding stuff to your stehoscope will harbor extra microorganisms though, so be sure to take precaution before making yourself, patients, &/or co-workers ill. :) Happy New Year to all!

I had mine engraved, but I might use the tape idea for seeing from a distance.

I got a hot pink ultrascope (the ones with the glass bell). The bell is custom painted with a black & white yin yang. I'm betting nobody else has one like it and that it'g on it s VERY identifiable, even from a distance. I'll probably throw a tag on it too just for good measure.
