Learn to chart, not only can it save your job, but it is horrible dealing with a patient when you can't figure out what the last nurse has done or said to this patient already.

It's ok to take that potty break!

Specializes in CNA.

If a patient is angry, give them a hug. If a patient is sad, give them a hug. If a patient is hurting, give them a hug. A hug is a powerful dose of pain relief that not all medications can cure.

Specializes in Programming / Strategist for allnurses.

GREAT TIPS!! Keep them coming. Two winners will win Amazon $250 gift cards!!!!!

Never say it is quiet when it is, cause if you do the crap hits the fan and it's non stop from that point on.

Do it all as if the one you cherish most were the patient.

It is so easy to get to the point of burn out. Take your own health (mental, physical, and emotional) seriously. It's hard to take care of others if you don't take care of yourself!!

Nursing is a 24-hour job, you will not be able to get everything done. It is ok to leave it for the next shift.

In order to stay calm to think clearly to save your patient that is "circling the drain", think "it's not my emergency, it's theirs." This will help you see and think clearly to save your patient instead of being panicked and not doing what you could be to save their life in a timely manner!

Always be an advocate for the patient oh and as the nurse make sure you eat, pee and drink!

Encourage patients to see the glass half full no matter what; encouragement gives them a positive attitude and an overall better experience in caring for them!

Remember why you became a nurse.
